Questionable place to work

Employee Relations Advisor (Former Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 9 June 2023

The office is very dated. Management are are bully's within the employment relations department. Very clicky teams, that doesnt let new people in, very cold and stand offish. Have to prove your worth, a blame culture, do not give you adequate training. Can't speak for the whole of Travis Perkins but the HR Department is the worst I've ever worked for in my 15 year career.

Make you feel like you matter and don’t treat employees like numbers, pay very well and offer lots of support. Best place I’ve worked so far. Amazing company and amazing wellbeing system in place

Stressful and unfair

You get punished for being good at your job , to much favouritism not enough respect , the more you do the more they want you to do , you get given jobs that your lorry should not go to , wrong addresses unsafe work areas if your not so good you get treated like a god , everything you say falls on deaf ears , all management care about is getting the jobs done , I felt I had no choice but to leave the lorries our well passed there sell by date ,was told it was job and knock but its not, they won't let you go before 3pm and find jobs for you

Out dated trucks no respect if your a driver, unfair job distribution if you good you get more then your share, if your a favourite you get the cream jobs and not many of them, have to work every other Saturday

Staff was ok

The only problem I found there was they tend to move you around from yard to yard witch I felt was unsettling. As I like to work from one place. Plus management got moved around too so it was difficult to build relationships and understand what was required of you.

I worked for Bss lewes the worst job ever!

I would never recommend. In actual fact I have been asked what I felt about working at Bss i simply said don’t work for them. You are just a number and not respected or treated as an employee. The manager just cares about figures and not your mental state.

Enjoyed working at Rowley good bunch of lads, work was very fast and the more you done the more you got, shame the wages didn't match what I was told, still would have been there unfortunately had to leave after being down by so much money

Manager of the branch made it a decent place to work. Good laugh with my colleagues. No day was really the same which worked well for me. I'd say I'd work for them again if the offer came up

Boring and tiring

Boring place, heavy lifting most of the time(boilers,radiators,copper pipes). Managment is somewhat okay but they don’t really care about you that much. Payrate ok and you have an anual bonus

Excellent company to work for

Great place to work if your looking for the short hours 7.30-4.30 home and out the gate never later than that. No transport planner so expect to be given a run around some days. Great people tho and have had a great experience over the years. Bad bits - work every other Saturday oh and stocktake twice a year

Excellent company to work for

Having worked as a HIAB operator for other employers makes you realise that Travis Perkins is a very caring employer who really looks after their staff, if you appreciate a strong effort to work to a high standard of health and safety standards and enjoy local multi drop work with a smile then this might be a place for you.

depressing with no encouragement

Company as a whole sell themselves as a caring company looking after its employees, unfortunately this is not the case.( just another number on the payroll) Management is still in the dark ages. Bullying and intimidation are common practice. Would definitely stay away from this company. A more modern management approach needs to be adopted quickly as the current style is set back in the 70s.
