Fantastic opportunity

Brilliant company to work for, they train/coach you all the way through your career. It’s fast paced and full of opportunity to progress, as branch manager you have the key to delve further into sales and coaching your team to succeed.

Pros

Fast paced sales, plenty of opportunity within the group.

Cons

Not much time for family life, being a single parent.

Great place to work

Pay is good, Job is good. Would reccomend if I was not being made redundant I would not be looking elsewhere for a job, but my branch is closing down.

Tp

Good work culture, to expensive hence the nickname triple price, to many upper tier management and head office staff that the branches have to pay for in their budget.. raising the price of goods above the market value making the brand less popular, when you have head office charges and regional office charges in the management accounts it elevates the pressure on the branch level

Pros

Safe work environment

Cons

To many upper tiers outside of branch level not actually making any money for the business

So Glad To Be Leaving

Benchmarx could be such a fantastic company but upper management are just imported from TP with no knowledge of kitchens or how to run a showroom. There are huge expectations with very little support. It is so frustrating when we have such a better product and price then our biggest competitors.

A Travis Perkins training ground for middle-upper management

I worked for Benchmarx for over 9 years and the Directors and Operations Managers started to come in from the umbrella comapny Travis Perkins which meant the longer standing, hardworking true Benchmarx Managers didn;t really get a look in for more senior roles.

Fun, reactive fast paced business

A highly driven customer service industry based on building lasting relationships with every customer who walks through the door. Building Trust with suppliers, customers and fellow professionals to develop sales and relationships to sustain a business in a highly competitive industry/market place.

Productive / Rewarding / Excellent HR SKILLS /Great management

Each day is all about meeting and greeting customers and telephone sales, giving the customer the best experience. I have learnt a great deal about the ease of distribution and product availability. The management are great and always strive to excel and get the best out of each individual staff member. There is a strong team ethic within the company and within the branches. The hardest part of the job is ensuring that prices are consistent within the company , in order to reap reward and take market share from the opposition. The most enjoyable part of the job, is simply making money whilst giving the customer great service and build long lasting relationships.

Good

Enjoyable place to work with good people around you. Shame about the wage as it’s a tough job when managing a branch, I feel appreciated but the wage does not reflect that.

Enjoyable

A strong company with good people Travis Perkins is quite rightly seen as a leader in its field, there are good structures in place for expansion or consolidation. It is therefore a stable and forward thinking business.it appears to have excellent people retention. Generally a good place to work, normally Travis Perkins employees are sought after within the industry as it is presumed they are well coached and knowledgeable

Pros

Stable and positive

Cons

None

Trying to be B&Q in general merchanting

The company once promoted from within however this has all changed in the last 5 years. I worked from yard assistant up to Branch manager level over 12 years across two branches and saw many changes and new processes introduced to varying degrees of success. The truth is the company won’t teach you anything it’s the customer relationships and knowledge they give you that make the job good at all levels in branch. I once believed the company was family friendly but this culture has long since diluted. Lots of unhappy staff across the company lately. Very sad to leave the position though and the great customer relationships made over the years. However being pressed to make staff work overtime for the badge to prove resilience or “just get better people” was a step too far for myself. Top 100 employer- An undeserved recent award in my personal opinion.

Pros

Bonus scheme, branch network, health plan, company car or private car allowance

Cons

Too few staff in branches, pressure on all staff in branches, focus on incident prevention over staff welfare/health
