Easy job, long hours, no life
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Newmarket - 1 December 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedIt’s a fairly easy job, just loading up at a supplier delivering to various RDCs and then a collection once empty which is usually on route home. Your expected to work anywhere from 12-15 hours a day but that is just how the industry is as a whole, some staff in the office are fairly respectful and polite but majority of managers and supervisors are very unappreciative and even a simple thank you is a task. The money isn’t great but it isn’t the worst, you can expect for a weeks work roughly 60-70 hours anywhere from £560-£640 take home pay a week after tax, the hourly rate isn’t overly attractive but the tax free meal allowance does bump up your earnings. If you do work here be wary of other drivers, they will always ask you what job you have and if they feel you have something better than them or are earning more they will stab you in the back to get you in trouble as once you are gone that means more money for them. Stand your ground with the managers and office staff, if you don’t want to work silly hours 13 hrs plus then just say no. The contact says 10 hours anything after is overtime so you legally do not have to do the extra work, overall not a bad place to work to gain some experience within the haulage industry and hopefully things will change there and the drivers are better respected as there are some decent people at turners (Newmarket)
Pros
Easy job
Cons
Long hours, mediocre pay

Rubbish
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Felixstowe - 26 October 2023
they lied to us about being trampers when we first started there and when we confronted them they turned round and said we can't give you what we haven't got. Attitude of office workers stink and they expect you to read their minds. If we'd had had a choice we would never have started here

Cons
Whole company is rubbish

Jobs at Turners (Soham) Ltd
Toxic
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Bicker, Lincolnshire - 25 October 2023
Unappreciative and toxic place to work. Drivers treated like idiots by planners and check in/out office … until they need extra from you. Low morale amongst staff. Pay is low. Most units old, battered and dirty. High turnover of drivers.
Pros
None
Cons
Plenty

Planner (Current Employee) - Lincolnshire - 22 October 2023
Planning RDC supermarket loads, busy and fast paced. Management long standing so progression unlikely. Basic perks and average pay. Busy depot with 250 staff.

HGV 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Norwich - 7 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? None at all. The management are bullies and so are the drivers. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Getting out of bed and driving for them. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Not many English work there as the certificate like more of our Eastern European drivers. What is a typical day like for you at the company? The management new saying is that's you're job and shift and you have to work. Just get on with it and got to do do it.

Nice local people, poor communication within wider business divisions
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Crick, Northamptonshire - 14 September 2023
Overall, the people at my depot are friendly and want to help. The wider business does not give a good impression and communication is very poor. Repeat defects not being rectified. Overall review of company reputation being damaged. Pay not being explained prior to Day1 start and not finding out that a revised day rate until sign off from buddy system. Emails not responded to by Head Office.
Pros
Night shifts
Cons
Poor pay and benefits

Terrible workplace
Despatch Operative (Current Employee) - Soham, Cambridgeshire - 27 August 2023
There will very much be an us Vs them mentality. This is between Nightshift and Dayshift. No 2 shifts are ran the same. Management aware of issues but nothing gets fixed, you’re just told what you need to hear to placate you. Turnover is very high. If you need to talk to someone do it via email and Cc in as many people as you can.
Pros
Free parking
Cons
Everything is Lee

So far so good - decent support
HGV Class 1 Driver (Current Employee) - Bicker, Lincolnshire - 3 August 2023
Went from shunting to Class 1. They didn’t have my choice of class 1 when i joined so I did night shunting, This was valuable experience and learning yet PAID. I was eventually offered a day driver position with my choice if shifts and days, two weeks of co driver mentoring before being released into the wild in my own. Again all full pay, yet paid to learn. A great environment for a new class 1 to cut their teeth, Overall I’m happy with my job, there are times where things can get frustrating but that’s life, suck it up. My son wants to do hgv….would I recommend he join their apprentice programme? Yes. The training dept is great, if you screw up they will help you not sack you. My only real wish is some fresher units. Some of the girls are tired.

Fun workplace
Warehouse Operative (Current Employee) - Soham - 30 July 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Depending on what you get into here, some jobs are unpleasant but as a reachtruck/bulk carrier driver the job is easy doesn't require physical work. This is a freezer environment where a heated cabin is provided as well as beeing able to take a speaker or headphones with you to listen to music of your choice while you work. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I don't experience stres, it is a busy fast paced environment at times but it's not a problem for me as i am a very experienced Operative that completes tasks with ease no matter the work level. We all have bad days natter where you work. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The working conditions in the newer Coldstores are perfect compared to companies like 2 sisters. I love the atmosphere in the new building or CS11 as this is a very well coordinated and communicative team that helps eachother out to get the job done. Teamwork and respect is the thing that persuades me to stay. My manager is an amazing guy and even tho he is my boss we approach eachother in a friend like manner. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Chilled out 95% of the time....

Very professional
Apprentice/ driver (Former Employee) - Driving out of Watton - 28 July 2023
I completed an apprenticeship at Turners and benefited from an exceptional training team. After passing my driving test I started driving full time and after a 2 week assessment had my money put up to full wages. The team in traffic and most of the managers were very helpful and I found myself well supported from start to finish
Pros
Good training, helpful team.
Cons
Low wages

Transport Planner (Former Employee) - Rugby - 4 July 2023
You wouldn't find a better place to start your career in transport. It might be busy and stressful sometimes but like everywhere. Just simply try and you won't regret

Training Non existent, management
Manager (Former Employee) - United Kingdom - 1 June 2023
Work for company for a while. Training for low management and drivers was non existent. HQ often expected to do their job as not qualified employees providing jobs for business for low salaries. Management was happy as you do not bother them with your local issues. They live in the bubble rather not knowing.
Pros
Drivers and work with people. Otherwise none
Cons
low salary, no training, no personal or professional growth
