This organisation achieves so much and strives for so much

Work here if you want to help towards something bigger; so many important pieces of legislation etc. They have done a lot and keep working to improved the work environment and culture. Still some way to go and different areas will feel different. Unfortunately Civil Service restrictions will impact your pay and reward levels.

Stressful just for Admin Roles

New procedures have been introduced and the New Management style is pushy, demanding and some would call it bullying. Any feedback to middle management is slapped down and you are left struggling and juggling many tasks. It used to be a good place to work and enjoyable, but not now. Not very well paid either, lower than most other government departments.

Interesting work

Salary is not enough and the work can be stressful. Due to the amount. It is also very interesting and you can get involved in high profile matters which is a plus

Great work-life balance

Great place to work. Work-life balance is generally very good (except in some pockets of the organisation). Varied career as it's possible to work in almost any area of law or policy! Salary is quite low and well below market average. Other benefits are good though, with high employer pension contributions, enhanced maternity, flexible working, good holiday package, cycle to work scheme etc. Progression opportunities are quite slow, particularly given the salary is so low so promotion is the only real means of payrise. The organisation generally has a good culture and objectives. The politics can be challenging though, particularly working for some demanding ministers who don't know what they're doing!

Bad employer

If you wondered were all the freaks and weirdos went from your University then look no further than Government Legal Department. It is the only place where any of this lot could find employment. Truly awful lawyers and management with no training provided. You also have to be to the left of Corbyn to make any progress, you would have thought they would be impartial but they drone on the whole time about left wing issues. A truly poisonous atmosphere to work in, keep away from this lot if you have any ambition or ability they certainly have neither.
