Job satisfaction every day

Every day was interesting. You never knew whst you would be dealing with over the phone. It was heart breaking sometimes. So having a strong character is an advantage.

Don't practice what they preach...

1 rule from them, 1 rule for everyone else. Bullying culture especially Management, your needs are ignored, unlikely to be promoted. High stress levels. Put up and shut up as the benefits are so good. Members can be very rude/difficult/lying through their teeth. Often they think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and you should be in awe of them...

Pros

Benefits

Cons

No support

Worst Establishment I have ever worked for

The money is great but the whole management ethos is very much a blame culture. Often set up to fail and thrown under the bus to protect themselves. If you email asking for help and they don't like the questions they simply ignore you

Pros

Salary is excellent

Cons

Your job is never secure

Fun Workplace

I learnt good customer service and I loved meeting new people. I got on well with the management and my work colleagues we were like a family. It did have it's very busy periods as well as having some quiet periods.

Terrible union

Can’t believe working at this company sorry not a company an organisation has such great reviews how is that as the real life reviews you should read is on sites such as trustapilot ;it’s a terrible union look at the reviews I should know I was another one of there sufferers who I’ll advised me throughout my working life it’s plainly obvious it rakes in the cash but does little for you will end up like labour. Split up

Job Statisfaction

I have to negotiate pay on behalf of members. the job is stressful but can be satisfying. Good employer, good salary and a new company car every 4 years. I work with in a industry that I started employment as a driver which is passenger transport. In house education which although no formal certificates has given me a good grounding and education.

Pros

job staisfaction

Cons

24 hour serviceing

Intensely busy

Every day there were new challenges to embrace. I learned Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills through "in house" training. Certain areas of Management could have been better. Service provider to membership. Lack of inter-departmental co-operation. Making a difference to members with workplace issues when resolution could be made on their behalf by the organisation.

Pros

Good salary

Cons

No prospects for promotion

Loose management structure, limited career options

Unite recruits officers from its membership only. There is no day-to-day management (which suits motivated employees). Career routes are limited. Training is not geared towards individual development. The benefits package is excellent

Pros

No day-to-day management

Cons

No day-to-day management

Unforgettable

Unite is amazing and by far the best union ever. I joined at 16 and have since been a Community Activist. Fighting out on the streets and helping to create campaigns.

Senior Siebel consultant, Team lead, Busines Analyst

I led the Siebel BAU team here and also provided Business Analysis and Data Analysis skills. I led 4-5 rollouts and led a large scale data migration and data quality exercise. I worked with the labour party prior to a general election to help identify customers likely to vote for the labour party. I foudn these customers in in our CRM database with SQL and BI skills. This helped lead to a successful marketing campaign.

Unite the union

Working for unite was a eye opener first as a shop floor rep then as a disability rep then as a f.O.C always at meetings with management I did learn a lot from it but at the end of the day the union could not save our jobs.

Pros

Working to help employees

Cons

Could not save our jobs

Enjoyed and thrived upon the pressure of dealing with demanding individuals and situations.

Normal day started around 7am and ended 7pm with some work at home preparing for next day. Mostly my work took place out of office. only the administration was conducted in Edinburgh. Learned how to cope with stressful situations and to manage available time. I had a manegerial role in dealing with three secretaries and a member of the cleaning staff. My immediate manager was in Glasgow. Co-workers were doing a similar job to my own. Hardest part of the job was accepting that I could not always achieve what I set out to do due to external influences. Most enjoyable was when everything came together and the effort put in was justified.

Pros

Travelling and meeting people.

Cons

Travelling in the city traffic.
