United Utilities Employee Review

Varied working standards

The company has an abundance of staff that take pride in the role that they carry out. There are a significant number of mature colleagues who have been employed for 20-30+ years and lots of families in roles across the business. However there are many that are over-worked and not recognised for their dedication and extra support that they provide. The working experience varies vastly from dept to dept and team to team, with some roles expected to carry out the work of several people and other roles with a more reasonable work/life balance. Employee support and development also varies, with some managers being exceptional in their day job and also as a 'people manager' and other managers severely lacking despite numerous years in their position. The benefits and pay are very reasonable, albeit quite standard for a large UK company and there is always opportunity to change roles within the business.

Leadership is intent staying in the dark ages

Covid forced change on the company, change the company made kicking and screaming allowing it's staff to work from home. They never had more productive and happier staff. Keeping cars offs the road they were also helping support tackling climate change which is one of the things the leadership teams shout about for virtue signalling only. Now they're enforcing a minimum of three days in the office, not replacing staff everyone in the place has far too much work to do. They are looking to increase this back to four days. So after all the verbals they give about mental health, climate change, increase in productivity all of that is out the window to appease some very large egos at the top

Pros

Local

Cons

Expectation to take on work which should be done by two people if wanted done properly, but they expect you to willingly work 50hours plus for nothing

Good group of staff to work with and benefits are good, but management suck.

Good set of work colleagues and benefits are good. I don't have any faith in the management system, especially when I being strung along being promised a promotion that never materialised.

Pros

Good benefits, pension, share scheme

Cons

Not the best salary for a skilled man

Good company to work for

I worked in all different departments during my 8.5 years there from customer services in domestic and commercial teams, meter supply team, 6month Sales Support and lastly as a trainee buyer. The managers were nice and verbally helped you reach your goals and were supportive. Pay as very good and opportunities to achieve more and career progress and lots of benefits
