Pretty boring job but nice people and rewarding
Hotel Services (Former Employee) - Bristol - 5 December 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPretty boring job, constantly cleaning outpatient and inpatient areas but with training, it's not hard, just a bit mind-numbing. Food shifts are more interesting, nice chatting with the patients and making their day a bit better. Management is fair and perks to the job like a break, free uniform, DBS, and decent pay if you do overtime/antisocial hours.
Pros
Free Uniform, Free DBS, nice people
Cons
Shifts go slowly

Really nice people and place to work
Senior Medical Secretary (Former Employee) - Bristol - 20 July 2023
Real community feel, even for a large hospital. Everyone friendly and approachable from the Consultants to the Cleaners. Really loved my time there. Obviously location is a massive downfall - commute is terrible.

Very busy, but enjoyable and highly rewarding because you’re valued so highly.
Meet and Greet Volunteer (Current Employee) - Weston-super-Mare, Somerset - 26 April 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? It’s rewarding to know that you are helping people, and satisfying to have a good purpose in life and not only that but also the experience you gain volunteering shows you in a better light if you’re seeking paid employment. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Finding a parking space if you’re running late. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It’s very friendly and positive. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I welcome patients, staff and visitors at the main entrance to Weston General Hospital, giving advice and directions, occasionally taking patients in wheelchairs to their appointments if they are struggling to walk or running late.

Fantastic colleagues, but a lot of nepotism and lack of listening by senior managers
Digital Trainer (Former Employee) - Weston-super-Mare, Somerset - 4 April 2023
I mostly enjoyed my time there. I was grateful for the opportunity as I didn't have direct experience. My colleagues were kind, dedicated and hard working and my immediate managers were supportive. It was frustrating at times because senior managers weren't responsive to feedback or advice on what would work and what wouldn't. There seemed to be a lot of nepotism and a small number of people were in jobs well above their abilities and efforts which was irritating.

Areas for improvement

Not a lot of room for progression
Administration Officer (Current Employee) - Weston-super-Mare, Somerset - 21 February 2023
As stated above, this place doesn't offer room for progression so not career driven for non-medical roles. They have also become less flexible since merging

UBHW is a great group of hospitals to work for
General Manager Facilities (Current Employee) - Bristol - 14 January 2023
I have 1000 under my management supported by my service managers. We provide all the soft services across the sites daily. It hard but rewarding and staff are key to the safe and happy working. Reward them better with reviewing all band 2
Pros
Good atmosphere
Cons
Long hours

Loved the Job shame no full time contract available after a year
Business Support Manager (Former Employee) - Bristol - 4 September 2022
In my last weeks until I leave my fixed term contract position. Love the job and the team. However, I will and cannot live on a renewal of a fixed term. I have a mortgage and other commitments. My line manager is very nice and has an open ear very supportive throughout the year I was there. You can bring your talents into the department. Self drive and motivation is required and requested. Outside my department I can see it is a bit more relaxing and not that many deadlines.
Pros
Good work environment and most colleagues are good.
Cons
It seems to me that it is very important that you know the right people there to progress, Not sure if that’s always to the advantage of the company, I assume that due to COVID-19 the initial on job training was very limited.

Could be better !
Hospital Porter (Former Employee) - Weston-super-Mare, Somerset - 25 June 2022
Dealt with patients and stock, and deliveries to and around the hospital. Learned different types of work load, and under time constraints. You are given very little training on a job; as little 30 minutes. A good variety of jobs from day to day. Management has poor leadership. Work life balance is not good as it has strange shift patterns. Stressful place to work. Some of the staff are good fun people, some of the time.

Amazing colleagues
Nursing Assistant (Current Employee) - Bristol - 29 March 2022
The team are amazing! Some management really do go the extra mile to help! It’s really appreciated, the extra work load of extra patients, and lack of staff really do have an effect on everyone. The team support each other but this can only go so far. The working shifts are long over 3 days, set rotas such as a two week rotate would be easier, the support from well-being is really helpful, and overall this is a great place to work if you have a great and hard working team by your side!
