I worked here for many years as a student and postdoc. Lots of interesting and exciting science and other things going on. I learned a lot in this job but found the pressure to write papers a lot. I understand that this suits some people but it was not for me

My time working here was great, but being a lab-based postdoc meant little job security and working long hours. That said, the academic freedom and closeness of people in my lab was great and something I really miss.

in the 1990s it was an exceptional place to work, i am uncertain if this remains true currently. Lovely city, can talk to work. Good colleagues, good funding.

Much lower salary compared to industrial or corporate positions, no work incentives e.g. bonuses, few opportunities for career progression as higher positions are already saturated and will only become available upon death, retirement or relocation of current staff.

Working for the University of Cambridge sounds like a dream job, but far from it. The University is so in love with its long history that it seems to actively resist modern workplace practices. Its attitude to disabled staff is egregiously, dangerously muddled and old-fashioned. Avoid like the plague if you are disabled in any way. Departments simply do not cooperate and many systems in place...

It depends on how desperate they to fill the role. I experienced either forensically searching technical interviews or hurried and superficial Skype sessions, with nothing in between..
