Supportive Environment
Research Assistant (Current Employee) - Reading, Berkshire - 9 January 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI work within research at the uni and have found the area very supportive, there are lots of career opportunities and engagement options. The management may be a little harder to navigate but on the day to day I enjoy my work

Busy role
Administrator (Former Employee) - Reading, Berkshire - 15 December 2022
A busy role. Not much training. Bureaucratic and slow at times. Work life balance needs addressing for certain roles. Nice campus, good flexible working.

Average
PROGRAMME SUPPORT OFFICER & OFFICE MANAGER (Current Employee) - Reading - 24 January 2020
The university is okay to work for providing you have a good line manager. There is a general feeling that the left hand doesn't talk to the right hand sometimes; however, if you can get through that most of the people you work with make it worth the effort. Great people, average management/leadership, good work environment.

Great campus and relaxed atmosphere.
Infrastructure Services Engineer (Former Employee) - Reading - 16 July 2019
Higher management don't recognise IT and support functions. Money is spent on student expectations only.
Very limited progression opportunities.
Lovely campus. Flexible hours.

Review of Bars Reading
Bartender (Former Employee) - Reading, Berkshire - 27 June 2017
Working for bars has been my favourite role of employment todate, and am sad to have to leave, due to leaving Reading. There was never a shift I disliked, although some shifts were slower than others and some particulary busyand face paced, it was the people who I worked with and the people I worked for that made me enjoy this job so much. I would highly recommend this job to any reading university student. The hardest part of the job is the work/Uni balance but as managemnt understand you are there to be at university they are often very accomadating.
Pros
great staff
Cons
drunk students

Hard work expected but great people to work with
HR Adviser (Former Employee) - Reading, ENG - 2 June 2015
There is a hard work ethic within the University. However the extra that people do is not always acknowledged; it depends on the department you are in and the Director of that department.
There are some great staff and the grounds are fantastic.
Pros
No fixed working hours per week
Cons
No fixed working hours per week

Great place to work and thriwe
Research Assistant (Former Employee) - Reading, ENG - 11 March 2015
I cannot speak for the entire University of Reading, but Meteorology department is great and very keen on giving the best to it's employees and research staff, consciously looking to improve everyone's work/life balance, women equality and especially supporting new mum's returning to work.

Relaxed and interesting place to work
Campaign Support Officer (Current Employee) - Reading, ENG - 4 November 2014
The University of Reading is a fun place to work with good colleagues and a friendly atmosphere. You are given freedom to explore your own ideas. Career development very much depends on what manager you have and there is not much scope for upwards movement in my department as it is quite small.

Great place for research
PhD Researcher (Current Employee) - Reading, ENG - 16 June 2014
I am with University of Reading for last three years and it is one of the best places one can chose for research. As a researcher, I am free to chose how I work. I start early and finish early but there are others who prefer late evenings for work and it works very well either way. Working with some of the best brains in the world means I learn continuously from them. The hardest part of being a researcher is to be creative and effective at the same time and to expect the unexpected at any point of time.
Pros
Great work environment
Cons
Sometimes you need to work almost 24x7
