I have worked at several universities and Warwick really stands out. I have had a really positive employee experience during my time here.
Positive environment, flexible working and lovely, approachable management and senior management. Good communication overall and you feel valued as an employee. My manager really inspires me, is positive, supportive and really pushes me to develop myself.
Free refreshments, some flexible working
Progression can be challenging in some areas
Overall work is enjoyable and there is a strong focus on career development and learning. Colleagues, supervisors and managers are understanding, and there is a supportive culture in the office. Facilities and amenities are above average - both in the office and across the main campus. Good pension, holiday allowance and flexible working hours meaning a work/life balance is easier to control. Nice perks such as the Christmas party and statutory days off, and cafes and shops are easily accessible if needed.
Continued Professional Development, access to good facilities and excellent salary
Staff parking is expensive and public transport at peak times can be bad
Great place to work. Most staff are friendly and supportive, especially with career development and progression. Flexible working hours mean work/life balance is easier to control. Working facilities and amenities are more than suitable (kitchens, free hot drinks, on-site cafes/shops etc), along with the provision of tools needed to complete project work.Pension is excellent with large employer contributions. Workplace culture is generally supportive and collaborative. Odd exceptions though, much like any workplace.
Great Pension, Flexible working hours, Good Salary, Scope for development and progression
Some project supervisors out of touch with staff
Wouldn’t recommend to work here staff think they can boss you around, are very nosey, too much work for the time we have ! management are the worst their unprofessional, have favourite staff, talk about u and personal information to other staff, swear in front of you, hypocrites!! Stay away from this place
Good pay and hours
Very disrespectful and poor management
It's all OK and most permanent staff are friendly and students are nice enough (and there are many returning tutors so that says something) but communication is often poor which results in a lot of confusion and time wasting. Temporary staff did not always feel valued; there were issues around pay (not the best for EAP work in any case, one month in arrears with no significant advance possible, late salary for some people with initial unhelpful response so lots of desperate emails to various staff members across the university to try and get answers/money, and pension contribution taken without warning so lots of time spent emailing after finishing the work to try and get this money back). When working on campus in previous years, accommodation was part of the package and there were perks like the use of the sports centre and a slap-up lunch at the end of the course. Working from home meant losing these benefits /part of salary package and there was no compensation for using own utilities and equipment.
some supportive colleagues and decent materials
pay, admin, communication
The pay is great. You can get bonus every year, voucher...Just not very happy with management. Sometimes they are not professional. I do not agree with few things. A part of that, everything is good.
Bonnus, voucher, christmas party
Management is not professional
Great place if you are white or black British. If you are BAME expect loads of racism. And you will find it extremely difficult or maybe impossible to progress up the ladder if you are BAME. Staff transport system is great. Private pension is great.
A typical day in the department of chemistry as a core technical assistant included performing technical duties to ensure the smooth running of the science chemistry laboratories along with assisting the senior technician with mundane and technical tasks. In the morning before students would arrive for lab practicals my tasks would include ensuring lab sinks/benches are kept cleaned and maintained, ensuring flammable chemicals were topped up, turning on machines for practicals and setting up practical sessions by arranging glassware and chemicals for particular experiment. During the practicals duties would include making chemical solutions if needed, making consumables for experiments (TLC plates, spotters, melting point tubes), cleaning glassware and dealing with chemical waste and purchasing items from stores. Towards the end of the day in the chemistry labs tasks would include close down of the chemistry labs from experiments. Chemical waste from the experiment fume hoods would be collected and compiled and fume hood would be emptied of used items and cleaned. After this used machines around the lab would be turned off and any remaining solid or liquid waste would be disposed of. Culture of the workplace was the core technical assistant would work under the core technician and the core technician would work under the technical services manager. The hardest part of the job is being able to work under pressure and the most enjoyable was the variety of tasks in the job and working to a routine or structure.

Jobs at University of Warwick
I was bullied out of an academic role after more than 10 years of dedicated work. Others who simply did not do student and admin work they were paid for, but used the time to write and to earn elsewhere, were promoted. Vicious or weak departmental management controlled by cash-driven and inhumane central functions with no care for student or staff experience.
Nice place to work, not always flexible Competitive pay Nice people Big employer Good cafes Good gym Safe Standerd Office hours Smart ish dress require Carparking on site can be tricky You have to pay to park Supermarket and pret on site Different in every department Cinema and nice grounds Sports centr and swimming pool
So many of our fellow employees ha e left to better paid jobs as we were getting paid same as painters, they find it hard to employ new electricians as the pay is so below par and the only electricians they get are very inexperienced so again you’ll be working with straight out of college level 3 no experience. This is hard to swallow as your getting paid the same as the inexperienced electricians. What a wast of 2 years of my life, only old boys waiting to retire and straight out of collage guys left Good luck MPlease avoid if you can but good luck if you don’t
Too much time spent in meetings discussing pointless items, preventing staff getting on with the job they are paid for. Work is never covered when going on annual leave, so when you get back you feel as if you have never been away. No support from senior managers to back up the decisions that you make, in fact they sometimes over-rule them to make their own lives easier.
Good place to work for, management listen but if you struggle with them then Hr is brilliant. Always space to move around and work your way up the ladder and training is given for everything.
Holidays, Christmas time
You work more weekends in the summer than they let on in the interview
A typical day started with a 15-20 minute standup to discuss the expected work with a team of seven. Blockers were discussed. The team lead then discussed individual issues with appropriate analysts. I learnt about HCM modules and developed the test cases and script from user stories, ensured test coverage and quality. I tracked and manage defects with HP Quality Centre. The management was of a hybrid culture where team empowerment and best practises were encouraged. The most challenging part of the job was people management with the stakeholders and management. The most enjoyable part was reaching a consensus with stakeholders that facilitated effective and efficient testing that led to deployment of applications to the production environment that satisfied customers.
