Addicted to extreme management science - totally inappropriate and caused the company to (effectively) go bust.
Work involved forgetting your expertise and talent and concentrate on stupid management drivel Including; filling out endless competency matrices (the last one was 124 elements long); watching numerous company training videos none of which were appropriate or useful etc etc and attending many other brainwashing exercises.
on a typical day at work I will work closely with engineers to put concept ideas into practise. recording data and making observations for reports on the trails successes and failings. I'm also responsible for sourcing required materials and having specialist tooling made by external contractors. one of my rolls within the company is that of "training coordinator" in which I have to keep track of the rest of the teams training certification and ensure they are all up to date buy acquiring quotes for courses, booking them when the staff are available to do the course in question. I have to travel a lot with my current position to introduce new products to the production factories around the world.
free lunch, free health care and dental. great pension scheme.
As a travelling technician, the work is there. Depending on what projects you do, unlimited overtime it seems. Vestas has amazing benefits including super good insurance options, 401k with matching and immediate vesting, and amazing opportunity to accrue PTO(240hrs per year). The hourly pay leaves something to be desired, but with overtime and per diem, you can make a ton of money. The downside is trying to have a life outside of work. The only reason I am looking to leave Vestas is due to the want to settle down and start a family. Can't do that if you're never home.
Hotels paid for, work vehicle, fuel card, company provided work clothes and ppe, airfare for pto, awesome training, variety of work tasks
absolutely no work/life balance if you are travelling, getting trained/assigned more work without proper compensation
Fantastic place to work, supportive management and on the job training. The hours were flexible and supported family life. The supported staff and encouraged team building and provided outside events.
fruit delivered daily and great staff
Driven and exciting place to work, one of the best I have ever worked within. The ethos of the organisation is to work towards a greener environment in everything they do. Excellent attention to detail regarding H&S. Would never have left if it were not for the stability of the sector leading to my redundancy
Direction and drive - other staff
job security - part of the secort stability
If your face fits and you have friends in high places your work life will be better, if not expect to work more hours to pick up their slack. no work life balance as they do not care about your family time. expect to work 14 hour days. Safety goes out the window when they need you to do something. Wind Farm contracts are too short so no job security. Always penny pinching and monitoring your movements from when you start until you finish. cross check all your times against the tracker. Keep adding more work onto your already busy day/week. micro management,
Monitoring your movements from start to finish, micro management, cross checking times, more and more work load put onto the technician
Long days, job specific- Flexible job roles skill sets- Job rotation, continual learning curve, across different departments. Friendly management with a positive attitude and outlook, to match the companies ethos. Co-workers are like anywhere else you've worked. Hardest part: Time vs Money, Long days, Tight schedules Most enjoyable: Learning, team building, Co-workers, job satisfaction Lean management of processes.
Clean energy;) job flexibility, salary, Holiday entitlement
