Productive and fun workplace

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Did not work with the company for too long, however it had great benefits like food and soft drinks on shift. Had a good relation with the managers, however, had to change workplace because of commutting.

Could be a great place, brought down by a terrible work environment.

Oh boy, hospitality is tough at the best of times. But Village Hotels are meatgrinders, I have never worked in such an unappreciative work environment in my life. You will clock in and be defecated on by the public and management alike until you clock out where due to the current always working nature of hospitality you will recieve constant messages and updates from the group chat apps they use. You may be hired for the gym or reception or sales or meetings or food and beverage, but make no mistake you are hotel employee number xxxxxx and you will probably end up working shifts in all departments, the only exception is housekeeping who you may work with but who never end up working in other departments than themselves. There is an app that is being pushed for all aspects of the hotel which doesn't work properly and the guests of the hotel assume it's all your fault and you will be screamed at for it. The main management of the hotel is fairly useless and will tirade and pick on staff at all available moments. Middle management and department managers are hit and miss but only truelly care about themselves but will try and accommodate you where possible most of the time if it is in their interest long term. You seem to get less and less benefits and advantages as time goes on with the company, and do not bother trying to advance within the company unless you are in a clique because as stated before you are employee XXXXX and why promote a number. Wage rates are poor for anybody but upper management and department managers, department managers are usually average wages for hotels. -

Stressful and tiring

Not a good place to work at if you want a social life. Treated unfairly as regards to shifts, no proper breaks, expected to work late at certain times.

Pros

Some discounts, free gym membership

Cons

Long hours, stressful, unfairness, favouritism

Worst management

Over worked and underpaid! Rarely giving any advancement in position or pay, but giving many more jobs and roles to do! Not worth the money. Minimum wage for maximum effort while most managers weren’t doing their job properly

Pros

Free food for kitchen staff

Cons

Sometimes not given any break

It’s okay underpaid minimum wage!

When I applied for the job I was given weekends which was fine. But I never seemed to get a holiday on the weekends. Whenever I asked for holiday on the weekend they said no, you are a weekender. Which I understand but if I work weekends I should receive my holidays then. Which I never I just got given holiday pay randomly. However the department I worked for was lovely, the only thing I’d didn’t like was not been given the pay when I wanted it.

Pros

Some staff are nice, discounts on Starbucks and the restaurant. Free gym membership, which can be used on the swimming pool and exercise classes.

Cons

Refused holidays all year round. Minimal wage, understaffed

Poor Management Worse Service

The biggest joke about this place isn't the 0 hours contracts, the unsocial hours, the minimum wage or being worked like a dog, or even the 'staff appreciation week' where a couple bags of sweets are supposed to make up for being treated like a slave for the other 358 days of the year. Its that every staff member will tell you how bad their employer is and how much they hate having to smile to people when providing them with sub-standard services

Pros

Free gym access and staff discounts

Cons

The gym is filthy and the food is garbage

Not a good company to work for

No staff appreciation, no attempt to improve staff retention Lack of support, they tell you what they expect, but not how and when you should find time for it. Benefits don't suit everyone, free gym ,no staff food. Everyone eats, some go to gym. Everything is about £££, way before customer experience, staff morale and ethical values. Head office dictates everything, and the individual hotels have to suck it up, no matter what.

Pros

Free parking and gym, if you want to go to the gym and have a car

Cons

Long hours, no staff appreciation, cheap products (food, building, furniture etc), constant overbooking...

was a good place to work

I worked in the kitchen for 6 years and really enjoyed it but was unable to move up from the bottom although the management was friendly they wanted nothing to do with you until something when wrong or somebody complained. I learned a lot working there but at the same time it was the same thing day in and day, out never got 2 days off together the holidays where a mess with either to many people off at once so working extra hours and not being payed or to many some having to have unpaid time off to help out on the hours. God know how many times I was rang to come in a cover for others not turning up for shifts

Pros

dicount on work

Cons

long hours and no social life

Really bad place to work for!

Not disclosing my department, but the management there are jokers, high paid and yet loyalty doesn't mean anything sadly. You're constantly told you're easily replaceable and you have to work silly hours and always under-staffed having to deal with more pressure than the pay grade. DON'T APPLY! really really bad company.

Pros

Free gym

Cons

Long hours, understaff, overworked.

Swindon Village poorly managed with unskilled restaurant managers

Worst place I ever worked Long hours. Poorly managed and no staff benefits as stated they offer Head office are non existent with support in issues Lots of bullying goes on by a manager and staff always unhappy there Quality of life work balance is non existent and the whole place is shabby looking for a 4 star rated hotel. Managers are to focused on company league tables and provided no training for new staff and the only people that miss out are customers who pay a lot to stay there

Pros

None

Cons

Bad managers not staff friendly no support no training

Not good

Favouritism amongst the managers and staff, lots of rooms to do to a high standard but only 19 minutes to do them, can get 19+ large rooms to do in a short time. Very strict on times, no help at all. Have to work free overtime almost every day or you get punished.

Pros

Gym

Cons

Lots of work and preassure

Pros

Good benefits like the gym and discounts but to tiered to use them

Cons

Good first job

Worked here for a while. It’s got a good staff teams where bonds grow quickly. There isn’t anywhere to progress too within the restaurant. Gives good staff benefits like free gym membership and discounts but for most on floor staff it’s min wage with mostly young staff. It changes daily so always keeps you busy and always have something to do. I started while in college and it easily was adapted to my life outside of work.

Pros

Discounts, flexibility

Cons

No progression
