Toxic dental

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The Dental team are generally lovely, but the managemenet has left the place toxic. The staff turn over is high with a general lack of feeling valued and a significant amount of staff over worked and under appreciated. You will rarely leave a day at work satisfied or feeling it was a 'good day'. Until Virgin care start taking exist interviews seriously and look into the conduct of the managers this will continue

Great team. Awful management

This company do not value staff. Job was only okay as team were amazing and refused to be pushed around by bullish, jumped up senior managers. This company has a very Top Down approach and is not good at listening to the people on the ground. It's okay as a stop gap and to gain a bit of experience to lead to something better.

Pros

Lovely team who were good at looking after each other.

Cons

Unpleasant managers. Staff are not valued. Poor pay and A/L entitlement.

Fun place to work

Excellent place to work, manager was helpful and understanding. Nurses and doctors know what they want and so staff can offer.Staff and management are approachable

Pros

Free tea and coffee

Cons

More manpower

poor management

I agree with many of these posts. Extremely poor management with many promoted without any experience other than how to suck up to Execs. Avoid - i resigned as unemployment was preferable to continue to work for this organisation.

Cons

Virgin discounts amount to nothing

Lovely work colleagues but bullying management

Sadly management expect you to not only do the work you are employed to do for the department you work for but keep adding to your workload by getting you to cover other departments instead of hiring bank staff. The training is good but they have no interest in offering support to any weaknesses you have...they purely tick a box and expect you to be cured of your weakness by saying we sent you on the training so problem solved. Problem started when they decided on forming an Admin Team, this was not a good move & run by toxic management. Saying all that my team were truly wonderful to work for but sadly we’re helpless in fighting my corner being told to stay out of it. Position was a band 3 but was paid less than a band 2 NHS!...no perks, not even a NHS pension. 1% pay rise after a year. I really wouldn’t bother as your less appreciated than being employed by the NHS.

To be avoided!

Too many patients, not enough time and almost always working later and then inputting work on your laptop from home. Not encouraged to claim for time worked over contracted hoursA team of nurses who mostly loved their jobs but many were highly stressed, underappreciated and ultimately unhappy in their role. It can be a lonely role especially with Covid restrictions in place minimising in person team meetings.Geographical working has ensured there is no patient continuety now with agency nurses covering when staff leave.

Pros

Patients, who are thankful for the service.

Cons

Long hours for no pay, plus extra working from home too so work life balance is poor.

Avoid at all costs especially registered health professionals! Protect your registration

I could write an essay about this company and how bad they are but I’m too exhausted and down trodden to bother but here are the highlights ToxicExtremely poor management Culture of rudeness No work life balance Many staff experienced burn out Demoralising Family flexibility just works in their favour- staff work way over their hours just to keep their heads above water No respect for registered qualified staff at all levels Encourage staff to tick boxes instead of providing high quality holistic care Ticking boxes but missing the point I could go on all day.... just avoid at all costs, protect your professionalism and registration

Supportive teams

I’ve worked in the learning disability service within Virgin care for 15 years now having tupe from the council and Sirona care and health before this. I can honestly say Virgin Care are just as caring and person centred and the teams are very supportive and want to make a difference to service users lives.

Pros

Friendly Team, development opportunities, training, supportive culture

Loved it!

I loved working for VC. Excellent leadership, well run, robust governance and many opportunities for personal and professional development. Fantastic colleagues and real team spirit. Felt we were giving a high quality clinical service.

Pros

Development opportunities, supportive colleagues

Cons

Hot desking

Do these reviews help you learn more about working at Virgin Care?

The majority of comments speak for themselves !

Terrible company. Money first, patient second. I’d seriously go as far to question the overall patient safety at my previous site. I lasted a year and I’ve just left. The management have no respect for clinicians and staff are treated terribly. This reflects the originations inability to hold any staff. The turnover is huge !Bullying culture.Toxic, robotic, subdued depressive atmosphere in the workplace. No continuing education / progression.Terrible clueless management. No support from management.Constant understaffing to reduce cost.Constant lack of equipment.Constant flow of unhappy patients and complaints about the service, wait time (staffing) lack of equipment, lack of services.

Pros

Virgin tribe scheme.

Cons

No NHS pension, all of the above.

Terrible !

The clinicians are treated as children. The day to day working environment is toxic, micromanaged, and all staff are always on edge. Bullying and favouritism is spreading like wildfire. The pay is ok, the benefits are ok, but in my opinion the stress, bullying, unhappiness, miserable, blame culture just isn’t worth it.

Pros

Pay

Cons

Management

Hi, Thankyou for taking the time to leave your review of working with Virgin Care. It is shocking to hear of the manner in which you felt as a clinician you were treated and something we would look to take action upon immediately. At Virgin Care we have operated with a zero tolerance approach to bullying so to hear that this was apparent within your service is very concerning. Please can you email careers@virgincare.co.uk this will be in the strictest of confidence so that we can look into this case and aim to improve the service. Many Thanks - Ryan

Good place to work if you don't want to exhale in your career

I think Virgin has a very good vision. However, they do not know how to execute it. Virgin has chosen the wrong kind of people to put in management, people who are bias judgmental to their colleague and has no people skills. They don't support nursing education and the managers do not advocate for their staff. Management skills/behaviour is none existence.

Pros

There are none

Treat staff awfully

I worked in the payroll department and it was the worst experience of working practices I have ever seen. When requesting a holiday to go to a funeral of my partners family this was rejected with no reason given, even though I had worked until 9pm on multiple occasions to help the company meet deadlines. My manager was out of the office on this day so I asked the next in line If I could take the afternoon off due to my partner being emotional and wanting my support. This was approved and I was told that because I had worked extra I could take the time back without needing to book a holiday. Then upon my direct line managers return the next day, I received a warning for "going behind her back". I was also told that if I "was going to ask for time back then to just don't do the overtime" even though I was left in the office on multiple occasions on my own to rectify the immediate issue, and would have received a warning if I hadn't stayed to complete it. When requesting a holiday to go to the Manchester arena attack 1 year anniversary memorial due to an immediate family member being there on the night, this was rejected as it was "too close to pay day". Other members of the team had been off over payday for a week or two at a time and I had picked their work up during this period, and this would have been the first pay day in a year that I had booked even a single days holiday near. Given this, I emailed the next in line asking for this to be reviewed given the circumstances, and that one of Virgin Care's own employee's was one of the victims of the attack. Following this -

Not great

Basically a glorified carer but more advanced training. Not what was advertised. Training needs to be completely changed. They are supportive. Half of the staff sit around and slag everyone off yet are nice to your face. Major problems with staffs banding as in they are ver aware of their banding and will throw that in other staffs face. Very fake. Wouldn't work there.

Virgin Care ? It should be called Virgin Doesn't Care !

A typical day for me was an 8:30am start till 4:30pm being stressed out as I was running a whole dept on my own. I learned that you had to be a juggler as I was expected to do a team of seven people's work all by myself the management didn't care (profits and a renewed contract over staff wellbeing and sanity ) when I asked for some conflict resolution training to help me cope with difficult patients I was told to stop being a woman and grow some balls, I had not worked in an environment like this before so had no idea how to deal with angry patients who were very abusive and some even swore at me. the hardest part of the job was the hours between 8:30am and 4:30pm the most enjoyable part of the job was leaving the office at 4:20pm to catch my bus home I hated it please stay away from this place it is a complete utter joke of a company I'm not surprised people weren't lasting long there as one patient said to me "It says in the literature that Virgin Care is proud to run this NHS service but from what I can tell you ! have nothing to be proud of "

Awful company, toxic culture and corrupt management

Virgin care is an awful company. Management lie and are out for themselves. So many cuts to services and jobs and staff are told thus won’t happen. No one listens to feedback or your feedback on culture. They really just Don’t care about their staff. Not mentioning to NHS staff at interview that they’ll move them onto virgin care contracts. Employees join then loose all their continuous service. Management hire their own and who they’ve worked with before. Corrupt practices and behaviours. Constantly looking over your back. Good luck.

Something off - insidious, unprofessional, bullying management

Something is very wrong at VC Bath and it defies belief that the wider Virgin company or the local Commissioning body is allowing it to continue! Besides the unprofessional management style and their patronising, extremely rude, and demeaning attitude towards less senior staff, there is virtually no money left to deliver a robust community health service to the local population. However, this fact is lost in the clever manipulation of accounts and the omission of recording key facts discussed at senior level meetings. VC Bath cannot be transformed into an efficient healthcare provider as long as the current incumbent remains. Anyone who has attempted to challenge the status quo is bought out of the company at enormous public expense. This would be a poor choice of employment for anyone who seriously wants to make a professional career in healthcare.

Pros

Camaraderie amongst lower level employees

Cons

Rude and incompetent management

Terrible experience

No people skill what’s so ever! Not professional, poor management. Always short staff , people always leaving this company for better opportunities and better pay! Always promises but never delivers. No support
