Fine
Teacher (Current Employee) - West Sussex - 26 December 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedJust like working for any other council. No problem. HR are fine and helpful if needed, though I have no involvement directly with the council. They just pay my salary and day to day life is distracted by school.

Great colleagues but toxic senior management
Various Positions (Former Employee) - Chichester - 30 November 2022
The culture at WSCC steadily deteriorated in the time I worked there. Funding cuts led to increasing redundancies even as workloads increased, but this was rarely appreciated by senior management. A revolving door of interims at the top of the organisation meant there was no real long term thinking.
Pros
Supportive colleagues
Cons
Unsustainable workloads, toxic senior management culture

Good, not too friendly though
Administrator (Former Employee) - Crawley, West Sussex - 4 October 2022
Enjoyed working here, people were nice but management were not brilliant. The role involved lots of communication. if you are good at your job they tend to rely heavily on you and get you to do more and more which is unfair.

Chaotic, disfunctional, working against themselves.

Lots of frustrated staff grinning and bearing a confused, under-skilled and arrogant management system that’s is failing to apply even basic best practice.

Awful
Community (Former Employee) - Chichester - 1 February 2022
One of the worst places I’ve ever worked. Constant backstabbing and unsupportive colleagues. No support from management, long serving staff are able to trade on their longevity even if they are lying and unprofessional. Awful organisational culture
Pros
None
Cons
Literally everything

Oh dear !
West Sussex (Former Employee) - Angmering, West Sussex - 1 October 2021
Considering I was working in an educational establishment I was amazed at how little intelligence there seemed to be amongst the teaching staff and as a parent I'm disgusted at the way the "little people" , as one teacher referred to a pupils parents, are treated.
Pros
Didnt have to poke myself in the eye everyday
Cons
Felt like someone was poking me in the eye everyday as i always seemed to have a head ache

Relaxed and friendly working place
Executive Assistant to Chief Fire Officer (Current Employee) - Chichester - 19 July 2021
I have joined the council in 2019 and since then been working within the Fire and Rescue team. It is a great place to be with a strong feeling of communal support and friendliness. What I like is that my manager doesn't micro manage me and let me do my job and she also trusts that I'd provide the greatest support within my ability.
Pros
Local govt pensions, flexible working hours
Cons
pay is less than industry standard

Pleasant but challenging environment to work in
Youth Worker (Former Employee) - Adur & Worthing - 20 July 2020
Most work days are hectic, with multiple tasks and issues to deal with, and inconsistent support and resources to support you in this. Workplace environment can be good, dependent on where you are. Other staff are generally helpful and sociable. Quality of management is very mixed, and often not very collaborative. The organisation has had consistent changes in senior management, with some senior managers choosing to move on, and others being forced to. Hence continual poor Ofsted ratings.
Pros
opportunities to move around in roles in the organisation
Cons
Often pressured and stressed environment

Very Poor Workplace
Administrator (Former Employee) - Bognor Regis, West Sussex - 11 January 2020
You do the same thing all day. There are staff who do no work and nothing is done about them, there is no management and no direction. The management do not care at all.
