Fun and Productive
Ground Floor Team Member (Current Employee) - Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow - 28 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe team is great but the work can be tiring. Sometimes, there are a lot of expectations on you, which in turn, can cause you to be under a lot of pressure, but otherwise, lots of opportunities to progress and learn.

It’s a tough industry but where is this headed
General Manager (Current Employee) - United Kingdom - 24 September 2023
It’s a tough time to be in hospitality with costs spiralling and I’m sure every company is having challenges around labour and cost of sales. Senior management need to find a direction that doesn’t involve continually expecting sites, managers and teams to deliver more with less, it just isn’t sustainable.

Rediculous rota system poor rates of pay
Duty Manager (Former Employee) - Beefeater - 20 September 2023
Expect better reviews without supplying enough staff to do work. The level of training is inadequate. Although route for progression are there for the right people

Front of House Staff (Former Employee) - Poole - 10 September 2023
Loved it here, a proper team mentality. Everyone works for each other as it should be. Senior management not the best but grass roots the absolute best.

£2 lunches
Cons
Often ended working through breaks whilst senior management wouldn't even help

Don't do it!
PREMIER INN (Current Employee) - Ingatestone, Essex - 31 August 2023
Don't bother, you can kiss goodbye to your personal life. Your family will become strangers and all for minimum pay. Most enjoyable part of the job is getting to go home.

Worth staying 20 years for!
General Manager (Former Employee) - Home Counties - 29 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Team Ethos. They're trying to keep up with an evolving industry and have done well to stick around for 250 years! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Poor emphasis on work/life balance at the time (I left 2018) What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Leadership at the top has always been good. It's how it's interpreted and cascaded. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Customer facing roles can be full on with little time to plan.

Good place to work but hard work
General Manager (Former Employee) - All over - 24 August 2023
A good place to work if you have the staff, unfortunately like everywhere big cuts to labour % so becoming harder and harder to staff. Sales targets are not a true reflection to what is happening within the market.

Great place to work.
Waitress (Former Employee) - Telford, Shropshire - 24 August 2023
Different each day. You get to know the locals. The team are more like family. Can get extremely busy and it can be extremely quiet. Management are easy to talk to if and when issues arise.

Highly Demanding as Salaried Manager
Restaurant Manager (Current Employee) - North East - 21 August 2023
Lots of room for progression within the company if you are willing to show you want it. The hours can be long and contracts as a salaried manager require a lot of you (minimum 48 hours) which it never ends up being and realistically, you can be committing over 50 hours per week with constant messages on Microsoft Teams/Teams Meeting's outside of your schedule too. It’s not a very good work/life balance. Good levels of training can be provided if you work under the correct person, however there are a lot of managers with ‘landlord’ sort of entitlement where as the Restaurant Manager/Kitchen Manager you should be expected to do their job for them and they overlook your operation for sometimes sickening amounts of higher pay and almost zero support. There’s very much a ‘what are we paying you for?’ Sort of attitude. If you’re not work shy and have mass amounts of time to commit, this job would be great for you and the pay is good. However for work/life balance it’s definitely not. Sickness is extremely frowned upon and in some cases I have seen people be told they must attend work anyway, and also have 1 to 2 weeks worth of shifts removed from their schedules unpaid for attempting to ring in sick. The company has many policies and procedures in place however you might find yourself working for a general manager who thinks they don’t have to follow them.

Once upon a time, it was good. But not now.
The company has a saying... "if you aren't struggling, then you are overstaffed" Which is an AWFUL policy to have when it comes to hospitality. This, along with many of their other approaches, especially post 2022, only go to show that the people at the top are solely looking at numbers, and not practical application in a workplace environment. To the point where even the individual management teams at each site are often left to twist in the wind when the upper management decides to cut costs again and again and again.
Pros
Cheap food on shift
Cons
Critically understaffed as a business model

Unappreciated
Housekeeper (Former Employee) - Kent - 15 August 2023
You can give 100% with this place and it’s never good enough. The area manager is awful. You are literally just a number to them, don’t waste your time like I did it’s really not worth the stress
Pros
Discounted food
Cons
No set finishing time, need a strong stomach for the disgusting rooms, you are unappreciated and it’s hard work

Good for progression but hard work
Team Leader/Supervisor (Current Employee) - Gloucestershire - 13 August 2023
Very good for being able to progress through your career, although very demanding. Long hours with not many days off. Can be very stressful at times especially during busy periods

Fast paced but generally good environment to work in
Waitress (Current Employee) - Stirling, Stirlingshire - 3 August 2023
Worked with them for nearly a decade. The pay is okay but the tips are great. Management are approachable and are flexible. You are paired up with a Buddy for the first few weeks and also have online courses to do before you can work but there are allocated hours for this.
