‘A forward thinking council, motivated colleagues, strong leadership, excellent rewards, fair pay and conditions and a flexible and creative approach to working life. Explore more about developing your career at Wigan Council.’

Wigan Borough is the ninth largest metropolitan authority in the country and the second largest in Greater Manchester (GM) with a population of 320,000.

Wigan Council has a track record for strong decisive leadership, high quality service performance, efficiency and innovative transformation and regeneration.

Since 2010, the council has saved over £100m through transformation and making difficult decisions, rather than cutting services. By 2019, the council needs to save another £60m. The Deal for Future aims to deliver these savings while securing growth and delivering reform over the next five years.

The Deal for the Future outlines the vision for Wigan Council over the next five years and includes a number of ambitious plans including the creation of 5,000 jobs, 5,000 new homes and multi-purpose community hubs where residents can access a range of services under one roof.

We have an informal agreement with our employees called the staff deal. It outlines what staff can expect from us and in return what we expect from them.

We also have BeWigan which is a celebration of how we do things here in the borough because it’s not just about what we achieve; it’s also about how we do it. The three behaviours that underpin this are:

•Be Positive

•Be Accountable

•Be Courageous

If you have the passion to be part of the organisation and can bring enthusiasm and a fresh look approach we would like to hear from you. We offer a range of job opportunities which are suitable for you and our Apprenticeship Scheme is open to people of all ages.
