About William Hill

Like any great sports team, we’ve put in the hard graft since we got going in 1934. News & Updates

25 November 2022
The Financial Times has published its fourth annual Diversity Leaders ranking. We're pleased to share that William Hill achieved its highest ever score and came 227th out of the 850 European companies who made the final list. We were the only betting and gaming company on the list. As part of our 'Belong' ambition, we aim to be visible and vocal advocates of our inclusion work, so we are thrilled that this has been ecognised, especially in research based on employee perception.

Welcome to William Hill

With over 1,400 shops across the UK, we've been a permanent fixture on the UK high street since 1966. The careers we offer in our shops are about much more than simply taking bets, our colleagues are the backbone of our business and the careers we offer are about getting to know customers and the communities in which we live and work. Our shop colleagues work as part of our UK division which brings together all our UK customers, whether that's betting online or in shop - meaning we can all benefit from working together to provide the best products and best customer experience. To go one better, we have our eyes on the customer, because they matter most. We'll be the brand in everyone's hands if we give a damn and show we care. That means we own it - stepping up and seeing it through. But we can only do this together when we're on the same side. United by the belief that "it'll do" will never do". Because we are William Hill, and we go one better.

A place to [Belong]

[Belong] is our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. We're working hard to create a culture where everybody can find a space that they belong at William Hill. Supported by our Same Side Forum, a group of engaged and passionate colleagues from around the business, our [Belong] initiatives continue to grow. In fact, we have a number of Same Side Forums across our business, most notably in Retail where our forum members lead initiatives and celebrations across the business area. Just last year alone they focused on Pride, Black History Month, World Menopause Day and marked several other cultural and religious events. Because at William Hill, we are all on the Same Side.

Build your Career

Our ambition is to create a place where people want to join and love to stay. A big part of that is creating a learning culture where our people feel supported to learn and grow, and to achieve career aspirations their way. We have a strong commitment to Internals First to support our colleagues in their growth and development. As part of our promise we will consider colleagues first when we recruit and support them when they want to move into different roles across the business. In 2021, 200 Customer Experience Assistants stepped up into Customer Experience Manager roles, including permanent and seconded roles. With a further 79 shop based colleagues were promoted into Business Performance Manager or Head Office roles.

Find your Balance

We believe we can go one better in allowing all colleagues to find their own work life balance. Balance is unique and means something different to each one of us. William Hill colleagues already benefit from the core principles of flexibility which contributes towards health and wellbeing. Rotas Our approach to rota planning and shift patterns gives colleagues greater flexibility to work how and when they want. With over 90% of Rotas completed 3 weeks in advance. Flexi contracts Over 90% of our Retail contracts are Part Time – allowing colleagues to flex their work pattern around the personal lives. Trading times We adjust our trading times in line with the sporting calendar. In 2021 we introduced “Find your Balance” an initiative that gives Retail colleagues the opportunity to gain £50 in vouchers to help improve their work life balance. Colleagues can use on anything that gives them joy, this can be a trip to the cinema, a day out at the zoo or even towards the newest Fitbit.
