After working for William Hill for about two and a half years I can say that the job is fairly easy, it can be quite stressful at times depending on which shop you’re based at but the job is fairly easy and straightforward. They seem to have anybody as a manager nowadays, people that have no clue with what they’re doing and they will try and force you to manage at some point whether you want to do it or not and as long as they pass you off to become a two plus that’s it. There is a lot of favouritism within the company, managers will treat staff very differently dependant on how they get along with you as a person. Working at William Hill is one of those places where you will not progress at all. It’s a job you get too comfortable with and you don’t won’t to leave for that reason. If you have a good shop team then your work life will be a whole lot easier. The customers do keep you there as well as they’re people you will interact with everyday pretty much. You don’t get no extra pay for working bank holidays and will be expected to work over the Christmas period. A positive thing that I can say is that staff were paid full pay throughout furlough which was nice of the company.
Pros
Easy at times
Cons
Pay, long hours, favouritism, boring at times

Dead end job, shops shutting all the time.. awful customers and staff who don’t care.. good laugh but absolutely no ladder to success, the money is bad and there’s no chance of ever earning decent money. If you lack ambition but love a job you can drink and smoke at this is the place for you

Great atmosphere in shop and with colleagues. Always another shop you can ring for any help. Good to have the responsibility of managing your own shop.

Great company to work for. If you are hard working and show that you are self motivated and have a desire to progress, the sky is the limit.Second to none with their staff care, highlighted with the superb treatment of staff during the pandemic.Flexible work patterns, competitive salary, great people.5 stars from me!

The only good thing about the company was some of the staff. The pay wasn't worth the stress and aggregation of the job. From what I've heard since I left, the job has got worse.
Pros

They just keep adding more and more to our workload, definitely no progression in this company, you have to serve some very disgusting customers and smile while doing it... front line staff don't have any respect from anybody other than other front line staff. If you want a job where you don't have regular shifts (same times every week) or you want a job where you close a betting shop on your own at night, or you want a job where you're made work an extra 7 to 10 mins for free at the end of your shift, then this is the job for you.
Pros
You can sit in the air con and have a brew, you can socialise with your customers, You're not in a factory packing boxes every second of every day.
Cons
Nobody ever tells ya 'well done', You're the lowest rung on the ladder, They care more about the bottom line then you, Shop manager is just a fancy title, and means very little.

Don't expect any quality of life, the hours are horrendous, expected to cover all the time and lots of full days, 7.45am-9.45pm. Absolutely no gratitude or thanks. Minimal support and you'll be doing what your BPM should be doing. You are just a number 😠.
Pros
Sometimes get to work with a great team.
Cons
No time for breaks. No home life and zero support.

Lured in with a happy go get em attitude during training and once passed and you revive the thumbs up your given a set of keys and a responsibly list coming out the wahoo. Management treat you as just a number and even though they tell you to call them if you need them you are lucky if they answer. Long hours working on your own and if someone doesn't fancy coming in then 9/10 times making management aware resulted in you having to do the shift yourself. Most the time you will not get your entitled break and if caught eating at the counter then your up the creek. You have a button to call security if things get a little spicy but pressing it doesn't do much. Honestly McDonald's drive through has a faster response despite william hill saying your safety is very much important to them.
Pros
The rare staff you got on with same can be said for some customers
Cons
Long hours, no work life balance, rude management, i could go on

Good relaxed job. Nice interacting with your regular customers. I left before Corona virus so not sure how the betting industry would be to work for at this present time, not a very good time for betting shops at the minute.
Pros
Relaxed job, not stressful. Good incentives
Cons
Long hours and late nights not the best social hours

You are given a lot of responsibility after 13 weeks in the job which is great for people looking for experience. I have worked in 8 different shops and it can feel like a different job in each shop depending on the staff, customers and line management. However you are not paid nearly enough for all the responsibility you are given, compliance aspects, dealing with difficult customers and also the length of shifts. As a part time / student job its great. But it does not offer enough benefits or work/life balance being a full time employee. However if you are in a good shop with nice regular customers it does not feel like work.
Pros
Responsibility, training, fun work environment
Cons
Long hours, pay, lots of pressure from line managers who forget what working in a shop is like

The company hires staff straight from primary school it's embarrassing. There is no management structure. The company destroys the local community and is a terrible company to work for. Equipment hasn't been updated in the last 30 years and the company doesn't repair broken equipment. There isn't a HR department either so there is no one to actually run the company or fix any issues

Cons

They’re messy and purposely leave stuff out and make a mess not there to clean up after them like they’re my kids I’m there to make it covid safe for customers they are rude and constantly watch you in CCTV even if you do nothing wrong so you just feel watched all the time and stalked and uncomfortable. If a leaf blows in from outside they make a compliant and try saying you haven’t cleaned. The pay is low for the hours you do and how much work you do

Very anti social hours, with no enhanced rate for overtime. Your life becomes all about William Hill and not about you. The company have no understanding of how to treat employees with respect and dignity. Customers are disgusting, with the small exception who are decent people. Rules and procedures in place seem pointless, with no explanation either. Constantly asked to come in on days off due to lack of staff and poor planning on shop managers and business performance managers part. The company have no sense of loyalty to hard working/long serving shop staff who bust a gut to do their job well. Absolutely no job advancement at all despite receiving numerous promises that there would be from all levels of management.
Pros
Small amount of decent people
Cons
Hours, salary, customers, rules, locations and ethics

The intake training programme for William Hill is 12 weeks long, because there is a lot to learn and once you are on the job, you realise training only scratched the surface of what you actually need to know to do the job. Plus, once your workplace assessment has been signed off on, you will be thrown straight in at the deep end, and scheduled to take Duty manager shifts, where you will be lone manning and solely responsible for the shop for at least part of the shift. However, if you pass training and on the job assessment, the job offers guaranteed hours and genuine job security. They also promote from within and there is genuine opportunity for progression. The equality policy is also good. From shop floor level - up-to area management level - there's an even split of genders, races, ages and persuasions throughout. You will work hard and juggle many hats every shift, and the job has so many variables that there is always room for the unexpected. The team environment is really supportive. I worked with a fantastic group of people and you could ask any staff member from anywhere in the company a question and they would try and get you an answer. Our line management was also usually good. They had to stick within company parameters, but would do their best for you within those parameters. The rota system is brutal. There's no routine to it at all. You will get the number of weekly hours agreed in your contract, but they can be anytime between 7.45am and 10pm every day of the year except Christmas day. The shifts are erratic and you can be doing a - more...
