Over the last 6 years there has been so many changes of senior management and strategy leaving the business and staff and more importantly customers confused and lacking in confidence.Bullying middle management culture and rule by fear and intimidation and ridicule.Once was a very good company to work for but unfortunately lost its way and has now fallen from grace
Pros
Decent salary and benefits if you can stand the culture
Cons
Loss of strategic direction and bullying middle management

Support from head office very poor.Equipment old and never replaced. Constant breakdowns.Your not aloud to talk to customers or look for new bussiness as suggested.Sales team very un professional and have no clue of the business.Good place to work if you want to just be a yes person and happy to not except any help.

What kind of experience you will get at Wolseley is down to the historic branch type, Burdens and MCA's are mostly great. In my experience this has been one of the best "office" type jobs I have had with (mostly) great colleagues. Lots of teamwork, low micromanagement, great discounts on stuff made by and stocked by Wolseley throughout the company (see Wolseley website). Great workplace culture and environment unless you get on somebodies bad side, although this seems to be very difficult.
Pros
Left to own/ non micromanaged, great discounts on home made stuff (massive range), good teamwork, some bonus if branch is doing well
Cons
Hard to get a payrise, some higher management don't know the business very well

Pros

Poor management who dont care and have no clue what goes in branches. Massive potential to improve Wolseley but the hierarchy in charge just doesn't listen to staff in branches how to improve the business. Middle management are yes men to senior managers all because if you challenge anything and not liked they will find a way to get of you.
Pros
Great collegues i have worked with
Cons
Under staffed, no job security the list is too long

Skill and knowledge mean nothing here, if you are not liked you stand no chance. Blocked for promotion numerous times whilst job given to people who are not qualified to do the role and then you’re expected to teach them the job you weren’t “good enough’ for. People having other people sacked for something that they do as well but themselves only getting a slap on the wrist. Area Managers recruiting for roles wanting completely opposite skill base, don’t stand a chance of progressing as higher management just bring their mates in
Pros
Potentially great colleagues to meet
Cons
Management having no understanding of anything

Using Salesforce to put your months worth of calls for the month. so you and your manager knows what you are doing, but this can change. Do on line courses.
Pros
Car, Laptop, Share Scheme, Pension plus Bonus
Cons
Can be long hours, but can have short days as well

The hardest part of the job was the outdated computer system, every item sold data had to be manually inputted, so there was a large amount of time spent wasted on finding part numbers that the computer knew. This did upset customers who were in a rush to get jobs done. This did make the process rather stressy. The staff were great, the camaraderie made for a fun place to work mostly. The shorter hours were good, which made home/work life balance easier. Hours are 0730-530 Mon to Fri and saturday 8-12, no sundays.
Pros
discounted items from store
Cons
10 hour days could be long

Standard eight hour shift with allocated 60 minute lunch break that you were too busy picking to take full advantage of frequently. Decent staff benefit package. Corrosive attitude if you don't fit in with the "click". On site training for skill fade/product update is poor, as is finding the time for training at a contract branch that delivers first and second fix plumbing to sites over 5 counties. Good CBT facility but too in depth if you have never been a plumber.
Pros
Staff discount, dining area and facilities, easy to get to, staff parking billets
Cons
Turnover of staff and drivers, blame culture, not a new warehouse and cramped

I got made redundant after 14 months. Ran out of work. I would not go and work in that branch again but the people were nice. I am a high pressured sales person and this company is too laid back for me
Pros
A bit slow not hig pressured
Cons
Can get boring

Far to many staff in senior management, most of them don't have a clue how to run a branch as they have never worked in a branch environment. Branches are very short staffed. Their is very little training, your are flung in at the deep end Most of the good staff leave or are made redundant. Branch morale is at a all time low
Pros
Staff discount
Cons
If salaried you are not paid overtime and cannot get banked hours back

Very hierarchical structure. Everything is decided by head office and they don’t have a clue about what’s going on at branch level. All about KPI’s and box ticking exercises. Very demoralised colleagues. Also they use a very slow and dated in-house computer system/network which can be frustrating at times. Only work here because I’ve got bills to pay.

Cons
Everything to do with management

Poor management and if your face does not fit they will get you out by redundancy or change your job role. Hate anyone who has something to say and get shot down for anything you do actually say. Not many women in the top jobs the company is very 1960. They don’t care about loyalty or years you have been there you are only a number to them

Non

I have seriously loved working here and am sad to be leaving, would recommend to anyone. Only leaving as covid 19 is forcing the company to make huge numbers of redundancies. If it wernt for that I'd never leave.
