Well supported by management. Extremely busy environment. Varied work , every day is different
Health and Social Care Assessor (Current Employee) - Worcester, Worcestershire - 3 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedEvery day is different, I have learned a lot since being employed by WCC. I am happy with my own experience of management. Some of the team are supportive , some are not and this can be frustrating when needing advise. The worst part of my job is Doing out of hours shifts. The best part is Working with the people in the community.
Pros
Flexible working from home
Cons
Having to work unsociable hours

Great place to work
Social Worker (Current Employee) - Worcester - 15 April 2023
Friendly colleagues, genuinely nice people to work with. I’ve worked in a different LA and it was quite clicky and not a nice atmosphere. Ive never known any of that at Worcester.

My manager and team were fantastic
Social Worker (Former Employee) - County - 9 December 2022
The staff I directly work with were amazing, passionate, dedicated, supportive and driven to help disadvantaged people in the community. The endless threat of restructure and post redundancies was cruel and not managed at all well and went on for literally 'years'. That's the only reason I was glad to leave and go to an organisation that did not make me feel like a disposable number.
Pros
Flexible autonomous work with great like minded staff and an inclusive team.
Cons
Threat to position, poor communication and poorly managed structure which creative significant anxiety.

Good pay
1:1 Teaching Assistant SEN (Former Employee) - Wyre Forest District, Worcestershire - 11 November 2022
Good pay, not often praised for a job well done. Lots of tasks expected to do in your own time. It was quite a cliquey environment to be in and resources often had to be paid for by myself.

Good place to work
Promoting independence assistant (Current Employee) - Worcester - 12 October 2022
Good place to work but can be very stressful, massive workload but that says more about the social care system than it does the council, they are doing their best

Decent pay… that’s about it.
Project Manager (Former Employee) - Worcester - 9 October 2022
The first few weeks I enjoyed the job, but then the cracks started to show. This company is just an archaic, stale business with a HIGH turnover of staff. In my first year of working there, around 6/7 people in my team left. They don’t care about inclusivity, morals or your happiness. You are just another number to them.

Increasingly ideologically possessed
Administration Assistant (Current Employee) - Remote - 3 September 2022
You work hard at the council, there is no doubt about this. Compared to the private sector, pay is pretty low. Work feels worthwhile and we do genuinely make a difference for the community. However, the culture is becoming increasingly ideological. Very left leaning, with mandatory DEI training and a long list of DEI policies we are expected to personify. Some infringement on free speech. Encouraged to use ‘preferred pronouns’ in email communications. The council believes in so called positive action and treating some groups more favourably based on so called historical disadvantages.

Awful leadership, communication from management and incompetent, lazy managers
Project Manager (Former Employee) - County Hall - 30 May 2022
Worcestershire County Council has got to be the worst employer I have ever had. There is no leadership, there is no communication - you are left to your own devices to figure stuff out and there is a massive blame culture when things go wrong.. as they do when there is no governance or managers who take accountability or take the time to explain the role. The Transformation and Change team have internal battles between the 2 programme managers which everyone gets caught up in. It was absolutely awful - DO NOT WORK FOR WCC!

Gives me a good work life balance
Occupational Therapist (Current Employee) - Worcestershire - 4 May 2022
They have adapted great to me becoming first time mum, adapting my work hours to suit me and my new lifestyle. Competitive rates of pay, over time is there if required.
Pros
great team members
Cons
management is not so great

Worcester council is ok to work for, just make that you are working with good people in your team and department.
Cable Installer (Former Employee) - Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire - 22 February 2022
I loved my job, but the management and sub contractors, conspired to push me out of my place in the company. There was no cultural understanding, or inclusiveness , and no one was available to help and support you, this how it was for me. I would still be doing the job now if it wasn’t for the poor management team and back stabbing colleagues.

Poorly managed
Anon (Former Employee) - Worcestershire - 7 July 2021
I was left to work out my induction myself, no training plan. No time allotted for training so still expected to complete daily tasks and training in the same time period. No building fire safety induction carried out. Staff have a telltale culture and if your face doesn't fit, you're completely unable to succeed. Management clueless, no support from them. Cannot recommend at all. Everything is outsourced so you have no way of being able to sort out issues in any decent timescale.
Pros
None

Very rewarding & supportive workplace
Lunchtime Supervisor (Current Employee) - Elmley Castle - 16 April 2021
Great place to work, very supportive of staff. You feel like you have total job security and are very valued. Although the salary is low you are paid all year round including the school holidays so that is a bonus!
Pros
Flexible working hours
Cons
Low salary

Lovely workplace
Child Support Assistant (Former Employee) - Kidderminster - 12 March 2021
I worked at St Catherine's Primary for several years. Lovely place to work, such friendly pupils and staff, extremely well organised. Was made feel welcome from the very first day.
Pros
Friendliness

Horrible Atmosphere
Manager (Current Employee) - Remote - 12 November 2020
COVID-19 seems to be an excuse for discriminatory practices at WCC and leadership in some areas of the business seem to think they are above the routine application of good management practices. I've worked here for a number of years and following my experiences during the school closures I have a bitter taste in my mouth that will last for years - my previous loyalty and hard work seem to count for very little. Oh and no sick pay for the first three days of sickness...they wont tell you that at interview.
Pros
Not many
Cons
Unsupportive and slap-dash when it comes to HR practices

Going Downhill Fast
Project Manager (Current Employee) - Remote - 25 October 2020
Such a shame that the most experienced managers are leaving and inexperienced Project Managers are taking their places. No mechanism for suggesting improvements from the front line so those seeking to do so apparently only cause annoyance to their so called ‘Senior’ PM’s. Culture of bullying supported by poorly written policy and their HR department. Investors in Policy rather than Investors in People.
Pros
Incredibly committed front line workers.
Cons
Hierarchical culture, no freedom to manage, senior management don’t consult or listen to their colleagues.

Worcestershire County Council as a whole is very supportive to their employees and training is readily available. Lots of support for employees
Residential Support Worker (Current Employee) - Worcester - 14 September 2020
Worcestershire County Council up until recently has been a great company to work for. Lots of training available and support.
Recently it has a new company under its umbrella which has changed my view of them and don’t feel that they value their employees anymore.
Pros
Good pension scheme. Training. Pay rates. Holidays.
Cons
New company under their umbrella

Very good
Passenger Assistant (Former Employee) - Redditch, Worcestershire - 1 August 2020
The team at Worcestershire County Council was good but they can be a bit noisy to your personal life especially if you are a private person like I was. But over all you get training which you need for what ever job you go for when needed.
Pros
Problems are sorted
Cons
You have to have your own car

Micro managers
Manager social care (Former Employee) - Worcester, Worcestershire - 31 May 2020
Poor supervision and leadership don't listen. Leaders dictate without direct change due to input from experienced managers. Performance review tick box no real understanding of challenges
