It's not perfect, but pretty good overall!
Engineer (Former Employee) - Remote - 25 November 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedThe work culture in Xero is among the best I have seen -- people really are collaborative and the company itself places a huge importance on mental-health. It is a welcoming and safe place to work for. As for the stuff that is less good -- that depends on the team you are on and how that team itself is structured; however, career progression can be slow and communication with other teams daunting due to time zone constraints.
Pros
Remote working, Friendly people
Cons
Lack of career progression

Good to begin with, then slowly deteriorates.
Customer Experience Advisor (Current Employee) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire - 28 December 2021
Customer Experience role at MK office. The role is to answer customer queries and assist via email, telephone (Teamviewer) in resolving their issue. You are expected to answer a certain amount of emails and answer /take certain amount of calls. This can add to the pressure of the role as you are also managing your own workload while taking on new customer issues. These new issues require deep diving and the help of others from other departments in different time zones. This adds time to resolving an issue and your customer is getting more agitated by the day. You're handling a lot of disgruntled customer queries because certain parts of the service provided by the software doesn't work constantly and there are always issues. People stay late to finish work/ handle ongoing queries so they have less stress the next day - not the best work/life balance. No real support when you've been handling disgruntled, shouty customers all day. This definitely starts to affect your mental state after a while. You are micro managed by people with no people/management skills which doesn't give you much confidence. When thy promote younger people into these roles, I would suggest they are attend workshops on how to interact with people of all ages and personalities. When they have to provide feedback to their team members, it can come across quite condescending or fake. When you approach them with a grievance, you are almost made to feel it is your fault. You stop saying anything because it's not going to go anywhere. Seniors of the teams seem to take on a lot of work - handling complaints, -
Pros
Wellbeing days, free fruit and canned drinks, bread and breakfast food. Areas to go to when feeling overwhelmed (soft seating areas, can play games, etc.), some really nice genuine people, Xero shares, community days, help with buying equipment when working from home during lockdown, nice office.
Cons
Can be very pack-orientated/cliques. Toxic atmosphere within some departments. Micromanaged.

Great people to work with just a shame the management is poor and are a clique
Customer Experience (Former Employee) - Milton Keynes - 30 August 2021
Working at Xero you will get to meet a great many good people in a friendly and fun environment. The working office space is nice and they provide free food and drinks. Sadly the longer you are there the more you realize the management of the place is a shambles. The managers who are good have mostly left the company now after being overlooked or from poor treatment. It is very much a clique that they fail to recognize or mock behind closed doors as they all know better. People are promoted base on if their face fits the clique. There are a good many people there who do not pull their weight day to day and as for their HR it is amateur at best with people who have never been from an HR background in place or a lazy approach to supporting the business. Aparently they call that culture. There are many good people at Xero doing a good job. Its only a shame they are not supported in the right way by managers with experience not 20 somthings playing at being managers with no people skills
Pros
Free food, friendly colleagues, some amazing hard working staff
Cons
Poor management and HR, to many staff not pulling their weight so others work long hours

Great Benefits
Customer Experience Advisor (Former Employee) - Milton Keynes - 2 August 2018
Great benefits and very much about showing that they care for making the work place a fun place to be. However I didn't believe in the product and not being able to give customers relevant advice on laws didn't sit well with my experience I hold. Not the job for me.
Pros
free soft drinks, snacks, alcohol on a Friday, retail discounts
Cons
Hidden targets, not for someone with experience

I Love Working for Xero
Bank Feed Administrator (Current Employee) - Milton Keynes, UK - 4 December 2012
I started working for Xero when I was 18. Working for Xero has taught me so much and as my first full time job, I love it! I am now 20 and don’t see myself working anywhere else in the near future. Xero has incredible people, a relaxed atmosphere and a great work ethic. As Xero grows as a company, it just gets better and better!

Jobs at Xero
Fun and cool place to work
National Sales Manager, UK (Current Employee) - Milton Keynes, UK - 18 November 2012
Xero is a fun and cool place to work. The product is at the leading edge of cloud accounting software, wonderfully innovative and beautiful to use. Its great to be involved in a company that truly changes the way that an industry works, helping businesses and their advisors to build stronger and longer lasting relationships. Its inspiring to work with so many talented colleagues who all have 100% belief in what we are doing. The disruption we are causing in the traditional desktop industry is fun – its great to be re-writing the rules.
Pros
leading edge product, inspiring workplace and managers, great team environment.
