Need a large car
Home courier (Former Employee) - Farnborough, Hampshire - 20 February 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI only had a small car. Kept getting large parcels and boxes. Kept having an overloaded car. I Kept complaining about it, they blamed night colleagues for not reading signs on cages etc. Yoy only 83p per parcel no matter what size it is. Never saw the mobile phone allowance either.

Avoid at all cost
Self Employed Courier (Former Employee) - Coventry, West Midlands - 20 September 2023
So the depot was in Coventry, so they had drivers that would your load to your house which is nice but they’re supposed to come from 8am-11am but the earliest I’ve received them is 11am must of the time it’s 2pm and you have to stay at home because you can’t miss them. When you receive the parcels it’ll take you an hour to hour and half sorting and you have to plan your own route. The pick your days thing is not true I had Saturdays off and ever since I started working with yodel I’ve always had someone come drop parcels on days I do not work then get asked to deliver them and if you don’t they’ll hit you with failure to deliver however many parcels were due out then and it’s £2 per parcel you didn’t deliver which is crazy when you weren’t supposed to be working and the managers will have ago at you and be rude to you and try scare you into doing it on your days off. There is next to no training and you have no idea who your managers are or anything. And they say the pay is £16-£18 but in reality when you calculate the time it takes you to sort 100 parcels and all the times you have to fail a delivery because they’re not in and no one els will take it and there’s no safe place because you can’t just leave it at someone’s door or front porch that 100 parcels turn into like 70 or 60 so you’ll do like 5 hours and be paid £8-£10 an hour and on top of that managers will deduct that even more for the smallest things. I worked there for 3 weeks and then when they decided to bring parcels on my day off then say you failed to deliver them because i refused to be forced to work when there -
Pros
No pros at all
Cons
Pay, management, system

absolute shambles
Self Employed Courier (Current Employee) - Truro, Cornwall - 23 August 2023
spend all morning waiting for parcels to arrive at door, never know what time they arrive, then spend an hour of unpaid work sorting them all in order of location and load into car, drive around like a headless chicken all day with little to no help from management, they expect the most from you but in return pay you the least. get off work end of day around 7pm for a horrendous £30 day, of which you have to put £15 back into fuel because they lie about paying your fuel. hours will eat your life before you know it all for close to nothing in return. full day of hard work around 6 hours for what, a meal deal?
Pros
can go shop on shift
Cons
everything else

Delivery driver
Self Employed Courier (Former Employee) - Northwich, Cheshire - 20 May 2023
Was employed as a self employed courier and I enjoyed the work but the parcel volume just wasn’t enough to make a decent wage. The parcels were delivered to my home address around 10 and then I scanned them and placed them in my car and off I went, I only got about 50-60 parcels a day and was finished in 3 hours but at only 80p a parcel including the fuel allowance it worked out at £48 and was using about £10 a day on fuel. Can’t have holidays are you are self employed and I worked 6 days a week. If the parcel volume was higher, rate of parcels and holidays then I would definitely go back. The only thing I would say is get a business phone as I was pestered on my personal phone with people wanting pestering me about parcels. Management at the Stoke depot were friendly and always on hand if I had any queries.
Pros
Flexible, own boss
Cons
Customer ringing, pay and parcel rate

Great team
Warehouse Parcel Sorter/Courier (Former Employee) - Omagh - 14 January 2023
Physically demanding but lots of motivation from the team. Management aren’t afraid to get stuck in and everyone pulls their weight. Pay is fair and if you’re willing to work there’s alot to be made, especially around Christmas time.
Pros
Great team & management
Cons
Christmas time gets challenging

Decent place to work part time
Parcel Courier (Current Employee) - Sheffield - 9 December 2022
For part time work, it's acceptable and not too stressful outside of xmas rush. There can be issues when you have to use the app for work as it does have bugs, and the automatic route optimisation has been poor in my experience.

Not worth it
Self Employed Courier (Former Employee) - North East - 17 November 2022
Don’t be fooled by the potential earnings, this job is only close to viable with a van, car owners won’t be able to make a living off this job and you’ll just run your car into the ground, long days, little training and I mean little training, pushed out the door with an app on your phone and a boot full of parcels to fend for yourself on the supposed training day with no support, not worth the hassle, do yourself a favour and look for something else!

Ok I guess
Self Employed Courier (Current Employee) - North West - 2 November 2022
Parcels are delivered to couriers home in my case though you never know when they will turn up Every day is different Never know what you will earn each week Self employed yet have to give 4 weeks notice if you want to take any days off which you don’t get paid for With fuel costs rising some days you can actually spend more than you earn

Good work / life balance
You're able to work your own hours, parcels are delivered to you and paid fortnightly. As long as you do your job properly then there are no issues with management.

Long hours - low pay 'self-employed' con
Local delivery/courier (Former Employee) - Peterborough - 22 August 2022
A typical day would mean receiving parcels earliest 11am, so it maybe 12/1pm before starting a 7-8 hour round delivering parcels, way too late! Very low rate for delivery in a rural area where there can be 10 miles between drop offs. I did this before fuel costs shot up, so how anyone makes this pay now is unbelievable!! I had quite good support from my local manager and depot, but there is no way that any 'self employed' courier can make a sustainable living out of this job. Don't believe the hype, yes you are your 'own boss' but your virtually working for nothing , while COSTING you an arm and a leg in fuel costs and car wear.

Don’t bother!
Courier (Current Employee) - Livingston depot - 9 July 2022
You get parcels whenever the depot decides - mine come any time between 11am & 2pm so you need to make sure you’re free between those times each day. Don’t expect any help from the depot - they rarely answer the phone. Don’t go looking for any wage rise either - I’ve been in the same parcel rate for the last 6 years… Frustrating the amount of folk that order something on next day delivery, who then get a message to say I’m on my way with their parcel, then decide to go out for the day! You want something? Stay in for it!

Hopefully not the best review for yodel.
Courier self employed (Former Employee) - Devizes - 12 June 2022
Sack after one year of employment just for calling in sick, for the first time. Sacked due to it being very busy during November hence calling in sick is not allowed. Issues such as no vehicle provided, no in car mapping, no hand free technology provided, wear and tear on my own vehicle, low pay, expected to provide hands free and answer the phone every time a call from the office was received which is sometimes impossible. On a self employed basis, without the vehicle and all the equipment required for the job being provided, I think it cost me more than I earned.

Terrible
Self Employed Courier (Former Employee) - Lincoln, Lincolnshire - 23 May 2022
The pay was ok but the management was absolutely horrendous. Would not recommend working for Yodel in the slightest. Managers blame everything on you when something's gone wrong. You can deliver anywhere from 20 to 150 parcels a day and you don't get any help planning your route so if you don't know the area it takes forever.
Cons
Long houes

Vindictive and unhelpful
Self Employed Courier (Former Employee) - Llandudno Junction - 16 March 2022
Your dropped in the deep end with no help or quality training 1 day if your lucky, hardly any support, backstabbed by management. dont get payed for loading or unloading have to work through brakes most of the time, have to figure out what cart is your designated one without being shown how to identify it, work place is toxic unless you already know someone there. Worked there for a week and was not even paid when i decided to leave due to backstabbing.
