Engineering Apprenticeships
Tweed Valley Maltings
It is important for Simpsons Malt to have the best people to sustain our business as it grows. We are therefore looking for 2 motivated individuals to join our Engineering Apprenticeship Programme. This is a hands-on opportunity to earn while you learn, gain industry-recognised qualifications and build a long-term career in engineering. The start date will be early September 2026, and the apprenticeships will begin January 2027.
Overview:
The apprentices will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience as they complete a TDR Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Typical Tasks:
The role and responsibilities do not limit duties, and the Company may require the apprentices from time to time to do any work within your capacity to support the collective ambition of the business including, but not limited to, holidays and absence of others.
- Carry out installation, commissioning, inspection, maintenance and repair activities;
- Fault-finding and repair of systems and equipment;
- Modify, repair or replace plant, systems and equipment;
- Participate in Risk Assessments as part of Safe System of Work;
- Interpret technical drawings;
- Prepare reports on work done.
Entry Requirements:
4 or 5 GCSEs at grade 9 to 4 (A* to C) or BTEC including English and Mathematics for a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.
Find out more here:
https://www.tdrtraining.co.uk/apprenticeship/maintenance-technician-level-3
Working week:
Standard working week will be 40 hours, 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday including a 1- hour unpaid break each day.
Future prospects:
It is hoped that the apprentices will progress into roles within Engineering as they become available. The training will consist of a mix of working on site with our Maintenance Technicians and day release at college at various stages throughout the apprenticeship. The apprentices will be trained as multi-skilled Electro-Mechanical Engineers.
The Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician (Level 3) standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.
Dependent on employer requirements, progression onto higher level qualifications (HNC, HND, Degree) or a Higher/Degree Apprenticeship.
Applications are encouraged from local candidates.
Simpsons Malt operates a Substance Misuse Policy and testing will be undertaken upon commencement of employment with random testing thereafter.
