Compliance & Building Safety Officer

Homes in Somerset – Bridgwater (Hybrid working)

Salary: £33,699 – £36,363 (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about keeping homes safe, compliant and well maintained?

We’re looking for a proactive and customer‑focused Compliance & Building Safety Officer to join our team. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our homes and communal areas meet all statutory, regulatory and best practice standards while delivering a high‑quality service to our residents.

This is a varied, field-based role where you’ll combine technical knowledge with strong people skills — working closely with residents, contractors and colleagues across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver compliance and building safety services across a designated patch
  • Ensure all statutory requirements are met across areas such as fire, water, lifts and electrical safety
  • Carry out inspections, testing and surveys, including blocks and communal areas
  • Work with contractors to achieve full compliance, instructing and monitoring remedial works
  • Review risk assessments and ensure actions are completed to required standards
  • Manage appointments and maintain accurate compliance records and reporting
  • Support resolution of access issues with residents using a customer‑first approach
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure service delivery meets legislative and quality standards

We’re looking for someone who brings a balance of technical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills.

You will:

  • Have experience in compliance, building safety, housing, or property services
  • Understand relevant legislation and regulatory requirements (e.g. building safety, fire, water, electrical)
  • Be confident working with contractors and managing service delivery
  • Demonstrate strong organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • Communicate effectively with residents, including those who may be reluctant to engage
  • Be comfortable using IT systems to manage data and reporting
  • Hold a full UK driving licence (or be able to travel across Somerset)

Why join Homes in Somerset?

  • Hybrid working to support work-life balance
  • Competitive salary
  • Opportunity to make a real impact on the safety and wellbeing of communities
  • Supportive team environment with training and development opportunities
  • A role where you can see the difference your work makes every day

Interested?

Apply now and help us create safer homes and stronger communities across Somerset.
