Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About the role

"As the Site’s Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the safe delivery of work at Oldbury; this will be in a highly regulated environment where we expect the highest standards to deal with the hazards safely and compliantly you can expect to encounter on a nuclear site.

Oldbury Site has some exciting projects over the coming years including asbestos strip of our Turbine Hall facility, design and build of a new waste conditioning facility and demolition of existing buildings.

You’ll lead a team made up of enthusiastic site engineers who ensure work is carried out by contractors to the standards that we expect, together with a compliance and work control group who ensure that we integrate all the sites work, including projects in a schedule that is resourced and can be executed.

The successful individual will fulfil the role of Principal Contractor and have the ability to shape the way projects are delivered at Oldbury as the decommissioning mission progresses."

Please note the contractual working hours are Monday - Thursday, 07.25 - 17.00. Perfect for someone looking for a four-day working week.

Key Deliverables

  • Safe efficient delivery of all work.
  • Lead the Construction Office ensuring that work undertaken is planned, managed and coordinated.
  • Deliver maintenance activities in compliance with the site schedule.
  • Ensure safety from the system is provided for work activities.
  • Overall responsibility of Principal Contractor duties when Magnox takes the role.
  • Ensure the Construction Office is properly resourced and structured.
  • Ensure that all Supply Chain activities are provided with the correct level of oversight to ensure compliance with the relevant Magnox Standards and the legislative requirements.
  • Ensure Safety Case Limits and Conditions are complied with during the delivery of the work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educated to HNC or equivalent level NQF 4 in a relevant discipline (essential).
  • APM introductory course (desirable).
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (essential).
  • Significant demonstrable experience of managing construction activity (essential).
  • A thorough knowledge of the CDM Regulations (essential).
  • A thorough knowledge of the company and local procedures, rules and instructions (essential).
  • Experience and knowledge of project and programme management (desirable).
  • Commitment to continuously improve and make a proactive contribution to successful improvement through the NRS Construction Manager Group (essential).
  • Proven track record in leadership (essential).
  • Understanding of contract conditions (essential - NEC3 ECC desirable). #INDOR

  • Flexible working – where possible.
  • The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

Please be aware this role holder requires security clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
