About the role:

Are you interested in information rights? Join our expanding Alliance Data Protection Team as one of three new Alliance Data Protection Advisors, supporting Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police.

This role supports the Alliance Data Protection and Information Sharing Manager in helping both Forces comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys researching information, making sound decisions and providing high-quality customer service.

You will play a key role in coordinating and processing Subject Access Requests (SARs) from receipt through to completion, ensuring responses are accurate, compliant and issued within statutory timescales. You will undertake research across multiple systems, work closely with departments across both Forces to gather and verify information, and provide advice to internal and external customers on data protection matters. There will be opportunities to contribute to awareness sessions and workshops, attend meetings across both Forces and develop your professional knowledge through relevant training and networking opportunities.

We are looking for organised and detail-focused individuals with an awareness of the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, with strong research and decision-making skills. You will be able to manage and prioritise your workload effectively, produce clear and well-structured written correspondence, and demonstrate confidence using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. A formal qualification in Data Protection is desirable; however, candidates who do not currently hold a qualification should be willing to work towards the BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection which would be fully funded by the Force.

Join us and help ensure that personal information is handled lawfully, fairly and transparently while supporting the vital work of policing across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.

What you get if you join us:
If you work for us, you will get access to:

  • A competitive salary with yearly increments.
  • 25 days a year leave entitlement, with an increase to 30 days after 5 years continuous employment, plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time workers).
  • Access to heavily subsidised gym membership that will provide you access to police site gyms throughout the counties.
  • Access to the Blue Light Card Scheme for discounts and services (requires a one off payment of £5).
  • Company sick pay.
  • Competitive local government pension scheme.
  • Job related equipment, as required.
  • Free onsite parking at many police sites throughout the counties.
  • Access to Group insurance scheme (via salary sacrifice scheme).
  • Support networks, free Employees Assistance Programme, Occupational Health and wellbeing services.
  • Development and training opportunities.
  • Supportive and flexible training plan, including regular check-ins throughout your initial period of joining us to ensure you are up to speed with the role and getting the support you need.
  • Flexitime, with the ability to undertake your hours flexibly and in line with business need.
  • Hybrid working, with the ability to work remotely at times throughout the working week (once signed off the training plan).
