An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Database Administrator- Oracle to join us on a permanent basis.
About the Department
The Unix Platform Services Team sits within the IT Services department and plays a crucial role in maintaining and evolving the University's IT infrastructure. The team supports a range of critical services, including Oracle databases and applications, identity and access management, and middleware integrations. Collaborating closely with teams across the University, the department ensures the reliability, security, and efficiency of systems that underpin world-class research, teaching, and administration.

About the Role
As an Oracle Database Administrator, you will play a key role in managing and optimising the University's database infrastructure, primarily focusing on Oracle systems running on Linux. You will ensure the stability, security, and performance of our databases, providing expert support and guidance to colleagues across IT Services and beyond.
You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our Oracle database environment, including planning and deploying upgrades, security patches, and optimisations. You will also contribute to strategic improvements, helping to develop automation solutions and ensuring our systems are resilient and future-proofed.
Collaboration is central to this role, as you will work closely with other teams, liaise with suppliers, and provide technical expertise to stakeholders. You will also have opportunities to mentor junior colleagues, contribute to University-wide projects, and stay at the forefront of emerging database technologies.
About You
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual with:
  • Extensive experience managing Oracle databases, including Oracle Database 19c with Multitenant architecture.
  • Strong expertise in Linux administration, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience in database performance optimisation, capacity planning, and backup/recovery using Oracle RMAN and Data Guard.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience documenting technical solutions and engaging with stakeholders.
