Full job description

About the role

Here at Balfour Beatty we’re seeking an experienced Portfolio Quality Manager to strengthen quality oversight across our Regional Build Team. As our project pipeline grows, this role will provide the structure, visibility, and assurance needed to ensure each development meets the standards expected by our customers, regulators, and internal teams.

You will take a lead role in monitoring quality performance across multiple projects, supporting project teams with consistent processes, early risk identification, and effective issue resolution. Working closely with build, technical, and compliance colleagues, you’ll help ensure that quality is delivered reliably, not reactively.

What you'll be doing

As a Portfolio Quality Manager you will:

  • Overseeing quality performance across all regional build projects, ensuring consistency and compliance with internal and industry standards.

  • Leading portfolio-wide quality audits, inspections, and risk assessments.

  • Working closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to drive quality improvements from concept through to completion.

  • Identifying trends, root causes, and opportunities to enhance build methodology and reduce defects.

  • Supporting the development and rollout of best-practice frameworks, processes, and tools.

  • Acting as the quality ambassador for the region—ensuring excellence is embedded in every stage of delivery.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:

  • Experience in construction quality management, portfolio governance, or technical assurance.

  • Strong understanding of construction regulations, quality standards, and risk management.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to look across multiple projects and spot patterns, risks, and opportunities.

  • A passion for raising standards, challenging the status quo, and delivering exceptional outcomes.

Why work for us

Day in, day out, our teams deliver some of the UK’s most ambitious, exciting and meaningful projects; developing, building and maintaining the vital infrastructure that supports national economies and strengthens communities.

Why join us?

  • Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow.
  • 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata)
  • Family friendly policies which include 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partners leave
  • Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and much more…
