Job Description:
Where you fit in
As Communications & Stakeholder Manager, you will lead Shell UK’s integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategy—covering all channels (digital, social, owned, earned, and paid) and build a valuable strategic network of stakeholders that matter to Shell with non-governmental stakeholders. You’ll craft compelling narratives, deliver high-impact campaigns, and build networks that enhance Shell’s reputation and position in the UK. You’ll also oversee corporate relations support for Shell in Scotland, including social performance activities, and act as a key partner in crisis preparedness and response.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be part of the senior UK Corporate Relations leadership group and a close partner to Government & Policy, Social Investment, Group Media Relations, and the UK Country Chair team—operating as one integrated function in service of the UK Country Strategy and Group priorities
-
Strategic communications leadership: Own Shell’s UK country internal and external communications strategy; deliver integrated campaigns aligned to UK Country and Group priorities
-
Stakeholder engagement: Lead engagement plans for the UK Country Chair team; build and maintain strategic networks with opinion leaders and influencers
-
Reputation planning: Drive UK reputation strategy and integrate with social investment and government & policy for a campaigning approach
-
Content & channels: Oversee creation of bold, best-in-class content across platforms; champion data-driven channel strategies and emerging technologies (including AI)
-
Social performance: Lead social impact management for UK assets/projects; ensure continuous improvement and assurance activities (e.g. internal community impact audits)
-
Crisis preparedness: Act as Shell UK country communications lead for crisis response and emergency preparedness for assets
-
Leadership & operations: Manage a team of six plus contractors; oversee a significant creative/content budget and Shell’s British Cycling sponsorship; set strategy for agency support
-
Executive enablement: Coach senior leaders on communications and engagement strategies; advise on communications and cultural transformation
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for an experienced senior communications and stakeholder professional who combines strategic acuity with creativity and resilience, someone who thrives in complex environments and delivers at pace.
-
Extensive years of experience in senior communications roles—agency, in-house, or journalism—with significant experience managing complex reputational issues in multinational contexts
-
Proven ability to lead teams and manage budgets, mastery in stakeholder engagement and content creation
-
Strong relationships within communications and stakeholder networks; appetite to grow Shell’s strategic influence
-
Experience in social performance management preferred
-
Excellent English writing skills (speechwriting, media tactics, creative content)
-
Measurement-driven approach, including stakeholder analysis and market intelligence
-
Willingness to travel within the UK and attend occasional out-of-hours engagements
Strategic Diligence
-
Contextual understanding of macro trends, policy, and audience insight; ability to shape short- and long-term strategies
-
Reputation instincts—mitigating risk while positioning Shell as a trusted, credible voice
-
Stakeholder orchestration for integrated outcomes; building transformative partnerships
-
Outcome-based planning with agile course correction; integrated measurement and evaluation
Effective Communication
-
Mastery in communications planning and execution; coaching senior leaders and role-modelling cross-functional partnership
-
Outcome-based advocacy across complex environments; trust-based relationships with diverse viewpoints
-
Best-in-class content creation and storytelling; integrated channel strategy leveraging analytics and tech
Risk & Opportunity Management
-
Ability to identify reputational and social opportunities that differentiate Shell; design integrated campaigns and partnerships
-
Translate external risks/opportunities into actionable insights for senior executives and business units
