Full job description

Job Purpose

We are seeking a reliable and professional Minibus Driver to join our team.

To provide safe, reliable and compassionate transport for young adults attending the Day Centre. This includes daily pick-ups and drop-offs, as well as driving for community activities, trips, and appointments during the day. The role supports the independence, safety, and wellbeing of individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Key ResponsibilitiesTransport Duties

  • Safely operate the centre’s minibus to collect service users from their homes and transport them to and from the Day Centre.
  • Drive service users to planned activities, outings, and appointments within the local community during the day.
  • Ensure all journeys are completed on time while maintaining safety and comfort for all passengers.
  • Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Keep the minibus clean, tidy, and roadworthy at all times.
  • Assist service users when boarding and exiting the vehicle, ensuring correct use of seatbelts, wheelchairs and restraints (where applicable).

Support Duties

  • Provide a friendly, calm, and patient presence for young adults with additional needs.
  • Communicate effectively with support staff, families, and service users.
  • Maintain awareness of safeguarding and report concerns promptly following policy.
  • Support staff during community outings where required, including helping individuals to access venues safely.

Record-Keeping

  • Complete transport logs, mileage sheets, and incident forms as required.
  • Follow GDPR and confidentiality requirements at all times.

RequirementsEssential

  • Full clean UK driving licence (Category D1 not required).
  • Experience driving larger vehicles (e.g., minibuses, vans) or willingness to be trained.
  • Good communication skills and a patient, supportive attitude.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with vulnerable adults or young people.
  • First aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.

Additional Information

  • All offers of employment are subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
  • Training will be provided on safeguarding, disability awareness, and minibus safety.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.50-£13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 40 per week
