Equans Embedded Generation operates multiple customer sites with large-scale embedded energy capacity across the UK, providing specialist management of onsite generation for industrial processes and the ability to export to the Grid. We combine multiple technologies to meet our customers’ specific needs, and provide design, build, operate and maintenance services. Our skills and expertise can help industrial businesses to achieve their carbon reduction goals.


We are experts in many technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, and energy from waste. By locating generation on customers’ sites we provide our customers with industry leading safety management, reduced energy costs and carbon footprint and assured energy security for their operational needs.


General Overview:


The Technical Services Manager (TSM) will report to the Operations Manager. They will be the line manager for the on-site maintenance team (max. 6 technicians). The TSM will have a supervisory role of operations staff. They will act as a deputy for the Operations Manager in case of absence, holidays or work away from site.


The TSM will be responsible for the management of all maintenance carried out, both reactive and planned, on all items of plant within the Generating Station, including steam boilers, water treatment plant, gas fired CHP engines, medical air compressors, chilled water system, standby generators and ancillary equipment.


The TSM will ensure the plant is compliant with all relevant statutory requirements, industry good practice is followed and health, safety and environmental requirements are met through upkeep of a thorough and comprehensive CAFM system. They will support the operations manager to ensure that LGSC is audit-ready at all times.


Key activities


  • Maintaining the plant to ensure compliance with appropriate safety and environmental standards, and statutory requirements including BG01/BG04, HTM’s and SFG20.
  • Ensure plant-related routine duties and plant performance, availability and reliability are maintained
  • Managing the legislative maintenance activities on-site, including ensuring that PSSR inspection requirements are undertaken, functional Safety tests are carried out, Legionella management, and ensure that statutory routines are programmed and carried out in line with the maintenance plan.
  • Ensure correct application of the chosen safe systems of work
  • Planning, organising and supervising maintenance activities utilising the CAFM.
  • General day-to-day management of the on-site maintenance technicians.
  • Leading the on-site technicians for maintenance, project work and outage preparation activities.
  • Ensure data and records pertaining to site maintenance activities are compiled to the required standard, are retained and managed in a suitable electronic document management system
  • Support the Operations Manager to identify, produce and maintain identified, required site documentation and procedures
  • Form part of the escalation chain for managing safety and any emergency response plans in line with EQUANS and the end users policies.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers.
  • Managing the procurement of spares and consumables in line with the budget.
  • Display behaviours and standards outlined in the Equans fundamentals.
  • The role will be measured on H&S, O&M excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Line Manager for 5/6 Technicians/Site Administrator.

Skills, qualifications & experience


  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Industrial Steam Boiler operations and maintenance experience (BOAS desirable)
  • NEBOSH Cert, IOSH Managing safely or similar safety qualification (desirable)
  • Operation & Maintenance of Utility Plant including Generation Equipment
  • Leadership skills to balance financial, technical and people priorities
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Flexible and pro-active approach, both personally and by influencing others
  • Customer and employee focussed
  • Excellent IT skills and experience of operating a range of management systems
