Main purpose of role:

The Electrician will be responsible for carrying out high-quality electrical installation, maintenance, and repair works across both domestic and commercial properties.

The role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, compliance with current regulations, and the ability to work across a varied portfolio including housing stock, public buildings, and commercial premises.

While experience in Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) systems is desirable, full training will be provided to the right candidate to support the organisation’s renewable energy and retrofit programmes.

Main duties

Electrical Installation & Maintenance

• Carry out electrical installations, repairs, testing, and maintenance works across domestic and commercial properties.
• Install and maintain wiring systems, consumer units, containment, lighting, power, and control systems.
• Diagnose faults and undertake remedial works in a timely and safe manner.

Inspection, Testing & Compliance

• Undertake inspection and testing in accordance with BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations – current amendment).
• Complete Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and certification.
• Ensure all works comply with Building Regulations (Part P) and relevant statutory requirements.

Renewable Technologies (Desirable / Training Provided)

• Support the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of Solar PV systems where required.
• Participate in training and development to achieve competence in renewable technologies aligned to PAS2030/35 programmes.

Health & Safety

• Work in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and CDM requirements.
• Carry out risk assessments and follow safe systems of work, including working at height where necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all site safety procedures and safe isolation practices.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Deliver a high standard of customer service when working in occupied properties and client premises.
• Liaise with tenants, clients, and colleagues to ensure works are completed efficiently and with minimal disruption.

Collaboration & Team Working

• Work collaboratively with other trades and operational teams to deliver planned and reactive works.

Support wider Servicestore delivery programmes, including retrofit and capital works.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Required:

• Qualifications:
• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent recognised qualification)

Experience:

• Proven experience working in both domestic and commercial electrical environments
• Experience in fault finding, testing, inspection, and general electrical maintenance
• Experience of working within responsive repairs, planned works, or similar environments

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and compliance standards
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills
• Effective communication and customer-facing skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Flexible approach to working patterns

Other Requirements:

• Full UK driving licence
• Willingness to participate in a 7-day rota and out-of-hours call-out service

Desirable (Not Essential)

• Experience installing or maintaining Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) systems
• LCL Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar PV Systems (or equivalent)
• Experience working within PAS2030/35 retrofit programmes
• Experience working at height and rooftop installations
• AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2)
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671 – current amendment, e.g. 18th Edition Amendment 2 or latest)
• City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent (preferred but can be “working towards” depending on your preference)
• Part P Building Regulations understanding
• Registration (or eligibility to register) with a competent persons scheme (e.g. NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA)
