Full job description
Wastewater compliance is a growing area at Wessex Water, and we are seeking an entry-level candidate eager to learn and develop their career in this field.
Initially, the role will focus on supporting the Wastewater Compliance team with technical administration, including logging formal communications from regulators and assisting with responses. This requires strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
This is a 13-month fixed-term position.
What you'll do
The Wastewater Compliance team is responsible for:
- understanding current and new regulations and legislation related to wastewater and sludge compliance, making sure Wessex Water understands and complies with these regulations
- providing advice and guidance to the teams responsible for running our sites (primarily water recycling centres, bioresource sites and the sewerage network)
- submitting data and information to our regulators (primarily the Environment Agency (EA)) as required, usually through monthly and annual submissions but occasionally in response to ad hoc requests
- providing information to the EA following unplanned incidents such as pollution or permit breaches
- providing information to members of the public under the Environmental Information Regulations.
This role will support the team in delivering these requirements.
After an initial period of training, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist with data management and submissions to the regulator, as well as monitoring permit compliance.
What you'll need
We are looking for a team player who is willing to be proactively involved in delivering the team's requirements.
Communication within the team is key for workload management, learning and sharing current information, and keeping on top of current team priorities.
The role is a development role and therefore, industry experience is not required. However, any experience or interest in the water industry, sewage treatment or the environment will be an advantage and will enable you to succeed.
You will either have work experience in a science field or be A-level or degree level qualified within a science related subject.
We are particularly looking for the following skills:
- good report writing
- the ability to manage tight timescales
- good attention to detail
- the ability to manage a variety of workstreams simultaneously and prioritise work accordingly
- professional communication style
- a proactive approach to work and identifying areas where you can support the team.
What you'll receive
- A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
- Career progression and professional development opportunities.
- 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
- The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
- The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
- A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
- Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
- The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
- Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
- Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
- Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
- Support from trained mental health first aiders.
- A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
