Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.
Where you’ll be working?

We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

This role will be within our water and wastewater capital project delivery team. Our teams deliver large-scale capital programmes aimed at keeping water infrastructure resilient for the long-term, while protecting the environment.

Want to be a part of it?

We are looking for an Environmental Advisor to support the successful delivery of capital construction projects within the water industry. Working as part of the SHE team, you will support our role as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer across a portfolio of capital projects delivered by our supply chain partners and contractors.

You will provide environmental support and assurance throughout the project lifecycle, helping ensure projects are delivered compliantly, sustainably, and in line with company, client and regulatory expectations.

This role involves close engagement with client, contractors, designers, operational teams, and stakeholders to promote high environmental standards and drive continual improvement across project delivery.

What you'll be doing?

You will provide supportive environmental guidance across capital construction projects, helping contractors deliver work responsibly and in line with our standards.

You will assist with our duties as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, while reviewing and monitoring contractor performance to ensure strong environmental compliance.

You will play an active role in environmental planning, risk management, and project mobilisation, as well as supporting surveys, inspections, permitting, and the implementation of site controls and management plans.
You will help drive effective waste management, duty‑of‑care compliance, and resource‑efficiency initiatives.

You will carry out audits and assurance checks, attend coordination and restart meetings, and support investigations into incidents, near misses, and non‑conformances.
You will help identify corrective and preventative actions, and you will collate, analyse, and report monthly environmental data and KPIs to support governance and continuous improvement.

Above all, you will promote positive environmental behaviours and help ensure compliance with legislation, company standards, and regulatory commitments.

What you'll bring?

  • Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor in a construction environment, ideally within utilities?
  • A recognised environmental qualification, preferably degree‑level, and IEMA membership (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting environmental surveys, design mitigation, and coordinating environmental and ecological specialists
  • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction best practice
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Understanding of waste management and pollution prevention controls
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skillsSelf‑motivation, teamwork, negotiation skills, and confidence to present, work independently, prioritise workloads, and travel when required
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to collate data and produce accurate reports
  • A valid UK driving licence and the willingness to obtain further training including National Water Hygiene qualifications (training provided)
