Achieve net zero in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
Carbon neutrality involves counterbalancing Indeed’s full GHG footprint through purchasing carbon offset projects that remove, avoid, or reduce GHG emissions. Our net zero strategy is similar in principle to carbon neutrality, but focuses on decreasing Indeed’s emissions first before relying on carbon offset projects to offset the few residual emissions that remain.
We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint by decreasing our in-office, work-from-home, travel-related, and vendor emissions (i.e. scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions). We’ll also reduce greenhouse gas emissions for our customers through the use of our products and services.

Our approach to net zero
Move towards renewable sources of energy and increasing the operational efficiency of Indeed facilities and assets
Workplaces represent the most direct source of emissions produced by Indeed from our electricity and fuel usage. We’re working to:
- improve energy efficiency across existing offices, and ensure any new office spaces are highly efficient
- switch to renewable or clean energy sources
- investigate how to lower our reliance on fossil fuels for heating
- reduce how much waste ends up in landfills
Support our employees in reducing their business travel, employee commuting, work from home, and other processes that impact their individual footprint
Areas such as employee business travel, commuting to work, and work from home all contribute to greenhouse gas emissions that Indeed is working to reduce. We are taking action by:
- piloting employee commute programs
- conducting an annual work from home employee questionnaire to learn ways to support emissions reductions for Indeedians working from home
- learning how to lower our business travel footprint
Collaborate with suppliers across our supply chain to collectively reduce our impact
Vendor sustainability at Indeed helps us understand and reduce the environmental footprint of our supply chain. Through collaborative joint initiatives, education, and procurement policy changes, we will work with our suppliers to empower them to reduce their emissions.
We will target our highest emission suppliers, while also ensuring that all suppliers are aware of our sustainability commitments and partner with us to meet them.
As part of our vendor sustainability efforts, we’re proud to have recently joined Ad Net Zero to support international collaboration to decarbonize the advertising industry and encourage the promotion of sustainable products, services, and behaviors.
Support and engage job seekers and employers to contribute towards a just and equitable green transition via green jobs, all while adopting green software engineering practices to reduce the footprint of our products
Our Indeed Interview platform allows employers to conduct virtual video interviews with job seekers around the world. Indeed Interview eliminates the need for job seekers to physically travel to a location for an interview, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
In FY2022, 31,634 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent were avoided through Indeed Interview, the equivalent of keeping 7,529 gas vehicles off the road for one year. As per the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalency Calculator, January 2024 update. Methodology verified by SCS Global Services. Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions were calculated from job seeker activity pulled from April 2021 to March 2022. The sample figure of avoided business travel was converted using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.As we grow the use of our interview platform, the amount of greenhouse gas avoided will increase.

iGreen
A cross-functional, self-organized collective of 600+ global employees, iGreen works to embed a culture of sustainability across Indeed. Since its inception in 2019, iGreen members have organized and contributed to dozens of initiatives, from river cleanup events and educational opportunities to sustainability hackathons.
Green Engineering
Guild
Launched in 2022, the employee-led Green Engineering Guild works to reduce Indeed’s greenhouse gas emissions from its use of information and communications technologies (ICT). The guild will meet this goal by operationalizing sustainable practices within Indeed’s engineering function and advancing initiatives that embed sustainability in Indeed products.
