Full job description
See it differently
You see the world through a unique lens and that’s exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently – it’s essential for creating a sustainable future.
Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates to help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.
Maritime at Arup
We bring inventive, trusted solutions to complex challenges in the maritime and coastal environment. Changes in global trade, a changing climate, stretched resources and the transition to a low carbon economy mean that ports and coastal communities must constantly adapt. To meet the challenge of adaptation, we bring specialist understanding to the entire range and lifecycle of port, maritime and coastal projects.
Whether guiding a client from concept to realisation or focusing on supporting our client operate assets more effectively, our maritime team members are involved in masterplanning, due diligence and feasibility studies, inspections and assessments, consents, engineering design, project management, construction supervision and more. We work with maritime clients to help them decarbonise and respond to the climate and biodiversity emergencies, bringing a whole-systems approach and technically robust trusted advice.
The Opportunity
The team thrives on the diversity of our work. Projects undertaken include port developments/upgrades, coastal protection schemes, river transport, decarbonisation studies and waterfront developments. We often play a key role in large scale multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, usually in the ports, coastal and energy sectors. The team is involved in projects throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept stage through to detailed design and construction, for a wide range of both public and private sector clients.
Energy, collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to success as our teams are often at the core of these projects acting as integrators or facilitators, working closely with many internal specialists and external bodies from clients and contractors to statutory approval organisations.
Is this role right for you?
For this opportunity, we are seeking the following:
- Working towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Science or equivalent
- Enthusiasm for a career in the Maritime sector underpinned by some knowledge and understanding of ports and coastal areas
- Some understanding of civil, port and coastal engineering including geotechnics, environment, structures and coastal processes
- A passion for sustainability and decarbonisation of maritime infrastructure
- Have an analytical thought process and/or a systems thinking approach
- The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
- Programming experience with coding languages is desirable
We're looking for:
Changemakers: A passion for sustainable development and creating a better world is key.
Innovative minds: We're looking for critical thinkers who embrace new ideas and challenge the status quo.
Growth seekers: You have a growth mindset, always eager to learn and explore new ways of working.
Adaptable adventurers: You're ready to take on any challenge that comes your way.
You should be able to start this opportunity in Summer 2026.
