About the Group

The Ian Mosey Group is a family-owned and operated business based in Hovingham, near York. The Group comprises three companies: the parent company Ian Mosey Ltd, and two subsidiaries—Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd and Ian Mosey (Feed) Ltd.

Ian Mosey (Livestock) Ltd is a well-established and respected business specialising in the breeding, rearing, and finishing of pigs across the North of England.

We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Breeding Unit Manager to join our team at our outdoor breeding unit located near Castle Howard, Malton. This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career and play a key role in the success of a progressive pig enterprise.

Overall Purpose of the Role

Working closely with the Breeding Unit Manager, the Assistant Breeding Unit Manager will support the day‑to‑day management of the unit, which operates a 3-week batch system, to help drive performance and ongoing development of the outdoor pig breeding unit. You will help ensure high standards of animal welfare, productivity, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of the daily running of the outdoor pig breeding unit
  • Apply strong technical knowledge and practical skills across all areas of pig production, including feeding, moving, serving, and handling
  • Ensure full compliance with welfare codes, health & safety regulations, and quality assurance standards
  • Keep up to date with industry innovations to support continuous improvement and development of the unit
  • Work collaboratively with the team and provide staff supervision when required
  • Maintain regular communication with management to support smooth and efficient operations

Key Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Previous experience working on a pig breeding unit or relevant practical experience within the pig industry
  • Strong understanding of pig husbandry and profitable pig production
  • Excellent stockmanship and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead by example with a hands‑on approach
  • Confident communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and self‑motivated, with the ability to use initiative
  • Results‑driven with a positive approach to problem‑solving
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to respond constructively to challenge
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience working on an outdoor breeding unit
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Counterbalance FLT licence

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience

Hours of Work: Contracted 40 hours a week with overtime, including weekends (one in three, on a rota basis)
