Full job description

You will join our friendly team in an open-plan office designed for a collaborative mindset. With an on-site free gym and regular team socials, we make sure that everyone's work/life balance is healthy.

MWA is a commercially focused accountancy practice working with ambitious, founder-led businesses across the UK.

We don’t just produce numbers — we help clients understand them, act on them, and grow from them. Our focus is management reporting, financial clarity and strategic insight, not year-end compliance.

We work with founders running businesses from £250k to £5m+ in sectors including ecommerce, hospitality, property and content creation. They’re ambitious, commercially-minded and often time-poor. Our job is to make sure they always know where they stand and what to do next.

We’re also in the middle of something genuinely interesting: building an AI-assisted finance operation from the ground up. We’re not there yet — but we’re investing in it seriously, and the right person will help shape how it develops.

We are now looking for an experienced practice accountant to join our team.

The Role

This is not a standard practice accounts position.

You’ll be preparing and reviewing management accounts across a portfolio of clients. But the real focus is ownership — making sure clients get the financial clarity we promise, from day one.

When a new client joins MWA, they receive our 90 Days to Financial Clarity guarantee. You’ll be the person who makes that happen — getting to grips with their books, coordinating across the team, and ensuring they leave onboarding with clean, current and commercially useful financial information.

Beyond onboarding, you’ll be the ongoing point of contact for management reporting — not just producing the figures, but talking clients through them and spotting where additional support would genuinely help.

You’ll be working directly with founders. They’re not finance people, they need someone who can translate numbers into decisions — clearly, calmly and with genuine commercial intelligence. That’s the job.

Why This Role

  • You’ll own a client portfolio and be the trusted point of contact — not a back-office preparer
  • You’ll work alongside MWA’s senior team with a clear path toward deeper advisory responsibility as the firm grows
  • You’ll be part of building something: a modern, AI-assisted finance operation at a firm that’s ahead of the curve
  • You’ll work with interesting, commercially ambitious clients — not corporate finance or low-value compliance work
  • You’ll have genuine autonomy and be trusted to deliver

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts across a client portfolio
  • Taking ownership of new client onboarding within the 90-day guarantee
  • Presenting and discussing management accounts with clients in plain, commercially useful language
  • Identifying trends, anomalies and opportunities within client financials
  • Supporting forecasts and basic scenario analysis
  • Getting up to speed with new software when clients bring unfamiliar systems
  • Helping improve reporting processes and consistency across the team
  • Speaking with potential clients
  • Assisting team members with technical and practice help when required

About You

  • ACCA / ACA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • At least 5 year's experience in a UK accountancy practice
  • Experienced in preparing management accounts across multiple clients
  • Confident talking clients through their numbers, not just producing them
  • Organised, reliable and someone who takes ownership and follows through
  • Commercially aware — you can spot when a conversation might open a door
  • You take ownership. If something’s not right, you sort it. You don’t wait to be told.

You’re curious about how businesses work, not just how their accounts are structured. You’re the kind of person who spots something in the numbers and picks up the phone.

You’re comfortable with technology and open to learning new tools — we’re building a more automated, AI-assisted way of working and we’d like you to be part of that.

About MWA

We are:

  • Commercially minded
  • Structured and process-driven
  • Calm and practical in our approach
  • Focused on delivering what we say we will

We work with founder-led businesses who value clarity, control and understanding of their numbers.

Salary & Benefits

  • £35k - £45k salary
  • Professional development support
  • Central Manchester office
  • On-site free gym
  • Reduced 36.5 hours week
  • Additional day's holiday for birthdays
  • Friendly, open plan office

Progression

There is a clear opportunity to develop within the team with increasing responsibility for reporting, analysis and forecasting.
