We're Hiring! Full time General Manager

At The Good Ol’ Deli, we're a small, passionate team serving specialty coffee, handcrafted sandwiches, fresh sourdough, and classic deli fare. We’re looking for a friendly, reliable person who can confidently switch between managing the team as well as front-of-house service, barista duties, and hands-on help in our kitchen and bakery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the delicatessen, including food preparation, production, and service
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Manage inventory and ordering of supplies
  • Administer staff rotas, payroll, health & safety procedures, and fire marshal duties
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve deli performance and profitability
  • Train and supervise staff members, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment for employees
  • Handle customer complaints and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Stay updated on industry trends and make recommendations for menu changes or improvements

Skills & Requirements

  • Strong culinary knowledge and experience in food preparation and production
  • Willingness to learn sandwich and bread making
  • Barista experience, with confidence in preparing artisan coffees
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices
  • Familiarity with kitchen operations and equipment
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of financial management principles
  • Experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role

We’d Love to Hear From You If You:

  • Have at least 1 year of supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Bring 1 year of restaurant or hospitality management experience (preferred)
  • Have 1 year of barista experience and feel confident preparing quality coffee (preferred)
  • Possess 1 year of hospitality or customer service experience (preferred)
  • Are a strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • Can stay calm, organised, and focused under pressure
  • Are happy to jump between FOH and BOH tasks depending on the day
  • Are reliable, proactive, and willing to pitch in wherever needed
  • Are available for early starts (7am) and weekend shifts
  • Live locally — bonus points!
