Part-Time Tax Assistant

The role

We are looking for an organised, detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Tax Assistant to join our friendly and established team on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous personal tax experience gained within a practising accountancy firm. You will play an important role within our Tax Department, supporting the delivery of personal tax compliance services and assisting clients with a range of tax-related matters.

The role is office-based and offers 20 hours per week, working as part of a collaborative and supportive team.

Key responsibilities

Your duties will include:

• Preparing and submitting Self Assessment tax returns, including the preparation of straightforward rental and self-employment accounts where required.
• Preparing ATED (Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings) returns.
• Preparing P11D forms.
• Managing correspondence with HMRC, including dealing with tax enquiries and disclosures.
• Providing ad hoc tax advice and support to clients.
• Ensuring all work is completed accurately and within relevant deadlines.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will have:

• Previous personal tax experience within a practising accountancy firm is essential.
• Experience using personal tax software.
• A good understanding of accounts and financial information.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise professionally with clients, HMRC and colleagues.
