Overview
We are an established, independent funeral directors in South Somerset and are looking to recruit a compassionate and reliable Funeral Director to join our small, dedicated team.

Established for 100 years the firm is at the heart of our local community and requires professionalism, empathy and a genuine desire to support families during difficult times.

Duties

  • Meet with bereaved families to discuss funeral arrangements and funeral plans
  • Coordinate all aspects of funeral services, including liaising with clergy, cemeteries, bearers etc
  • Prepare and oversee the transportation of the deceased with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Preparing the deceased in line with legal and professional standards.
  • Ensure all legal documentation is completed accurately and in compliance with regulations
  • Manage the preparation of coffins and funeral vehicles, including heavy lifting when necessary
  • Provide emotional support to families throughout the planning process and during the service
  • Maintain detailed records of all arrangements and correspondence
  • Oversee the organisation of funeral ceremonies to ensure they proceed smoothly and respectfully
  • Participating in an on-call rota
  • Assisting with community events (Open Days, coffee mornings)

Skills

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a compassionate and calm approach towards clients
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office
  • Well presented with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all legal requirements are met accurately
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a respectful demeanour
  • Good time management skills to coordinate multiple services efficiently
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • DBS
  • Diploma in Funeral Directing or equivalent required / and or experience.
