Gardener - local independent charity

Casual hours contract basis - flexible part time working

£15.90 per hour plus 5% pension contribution, mileage and holiday pay. Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Blue Light card and Age UK discount schemes.

Age UK Richmond upon Thames is a local independent charity supporting older people across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We provide a wide range of useful and well utilised services designed to improve wellbeing and enhance independence – including information & advice; a wide range of social & wellbeing centres and sessions; support after hospital discharge; digital skills development; Dementia Friendly Richmond and home services such as handyperson, housekeeping and gardening. Partnership is a core part of our work – we work in close collaboration with other voluntary sector partners and wider organisations to maximise our impact and reach. Our friendly and committed team of 45 staff and 100+ volunteers support around 4,000 local older people each year. 

Our useful gardening service helps our clients all year round with general maintenance, mowing, potting, weeding, trimming .etc.

The Opportunity

We are looking for skilled and capable individuals with gardening experience and skills to join us on a casual contract basis. You will be able to help with a range of tasks that may include:

▪ General gardening and maintenance

▪ Planting bulbs

▪ Mowing the lawn

▪ Digging

▪ Potting

▪ Weeding

▪ Trimming / pruning small trees, hedges and bushes.

▪ Putting down compost

Applicants must:

  • Have access to a set of gardening tools and equipment.
  • Have experience as a gardener
  • Be able to think on their feet and problem solve
  • Be a team player with good communication skills
  • Be happy to work alone
  • Have good organisational skills
  • Have good time management skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Hard working & physically fit
  • Have a flexible approach to work
  • Good customer service skills
  • Full UK driving license with access to a vehicle with business insurance and happy to drive between client homes.
  • Be reliable, trustworthy and conscientious
