Herdsperson – Wingfield, Wiltshire

About Us
Located in the village of Wingfield, Wiltshire, our family-run farm is home to 740 Holstein Friesian cows, supplying milk to a premium supermarket. We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and productivity. Our farm operates a high-input, high-output grazing system with year-round calving, milking twice daily on a rotary parlour.
As a closed herd, we rear all our heifers both on-site and with our trusted contract rearer. Join a supportive team committed to continuous improvement and innovative farming practices.
The Role
As Herdsperson, you’ll work alongside our Dairy Manager and a skilled team to ensure the health, welfare, and productivity of our herd. Your shift pattern will be 4am-10am and 2pm to 7pm. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Milking: Assisting with twice-daily milking, ensuring efficiency and high standards.
- Animal Health: Monitoring the health of cows, identifying issues promptly, and ensuring appropriate treatment.
- Parlour Hygiene: Ensuring the milking parlour is clean, organized, and running efficiently.
We’re seeking a passionate and proactive individual with:
- Experience in dairy farming.
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and empathy for livestock.
- Attention to detail and the ability to identify and address issues early.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Confidence and enthusiasm for taking responsibility for youngstock care and supporting the milking herd.
