Wellbeing and Housing Services
Tenancy Relations Officer
Grade G: £38,370.50 - £43,537.00 per annum
37 hours per week, Agile working supported, 2-year fixed term contract.

Background:
With the Renters’ Rights Act transforming tenancy law, this is an exciting time to join our Housing Standards Team and make a real difference. If you have a passion for housing and would like to play a vital role in protecting tenants from unlawful eviction, harassment, and unfair rental practices, Tenancy Relations Officer may be the role for you.

The Job:
As a Tenancy Relations Officer in the Housing Standards Team, you’ll be working closely with our experienced Senior Tenancy Relations Officer and other teams and partners to identify and remove non-compliances with housing and tenancy law and prevent homelessness. You will be trained and supported to use the full range of enforcement powers so your work will directly contribute to safeguarding vulnerable residents and upholding housing standards across the district.
You will play an essential role in improving the rental experience in Cherwell by helping tenants and landlords understand their rights and responsibilities in the private rented sector. Alongside raising awareness, you’ll provide trusted advice, practical support, and mediation to resolve issues and keep housing standards high across Cherwell.
A basic DBS check is required for this role.

The Person:
You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations effectively. You will have a track record of using initiative, tenacity and a keen eye for detail to get exceptional results. You can work flexibly to manage a busy, conflicting workload and produce excellent results as an individual and collaboratively. You have a commitment to delivering high-quality public services and safeguarding vulnerable residents.
If you have experience of working in the housing or homelessness sectors, or experience in an investigation, regulatory or enforcement role, we would love to hear from you.

The Benefits:
The Council is an equal opportunities employer. You’ll be part of a progressive, values-led council that embraces innovation and collaboration. In return, Cherwell offer a competitive package and a supportive culture that invests in your professional growth and wellbeing, including:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement 27 days + Bank holidays.
  • Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (Including generous Employer Contribution of 15.9% and the ability to transfer your private pension into the scheme)
  • EV Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Cycle to work salary sacrifice scheme
  • Annual Flu Vaccination voucher
  • £25 eye test examination
  • Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years’ service)
  • Flexible working policy
  • Agile working from home and in the office to suit the business need
  • Town centre office close to the station, canal and all amenities.
