Full job description

Purpose of the Role

Sapphire Eye Care is experiencing an exciting period of growth, we are now looking to recruit a talented Ophthalmic Nurse (Bank options also available) to join our team as we look to extend our ophthalmic services in Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset and the South of England.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of our Clinical care across multiple locations, reporting directly to our Lead Nurse. Key responsibilities will include the planning and delivery of personalised clinical care to our patients through their entire experience with Sapphire and beyond.

Working closely with our Lead Nurse and Consultant Ophthalmologists, the successful candidate will adopt a supportive role both in outpatients conducting diagnostics and pre-operative assessments. The role also requires high levels of clinical governance whilst caring for our patients on the ward pre and post operatively.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel to each of our locations and assist in maintaining an out of hours clinical on-call service. Sapphire operates six days a week and therefore occasional weekend working is required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To promote a sensitive, responsive and caring approach to all patients. To be responsible for the delivery of high quality, safe and effective patient care throughout the patients experience with Sapphire. To work in a manner that also ensures maximum efficiency, effective utilisation of resources and a seamless delivery of support to our Consultant Ophthalmologists.

Caring

· Work with our Consultants supporting them and delivering excellent care to patients during their clinical pathway

· Use clinical judgement and analytical skills to pro-actively identify potential problems during the patients’ clinical pathway that require Consultant input

· Provide pre and post-operative guidance to patients, relatives/carers through effective communication

· Provide clinical advice/training for our team, patients and their relatives/carers

· Maintain an awareness of the need to deliver care in a manner which demonstrates dignity and respect, this includes the provision of an appropriate level of privacy at all times

· Ensure effective communication is maintained with patients, relatives, carers, in a manner that is consistent with their level of understanding, culture and background, seeking advice and assistance when appropriate

· To ensure that all communication takes place in a manner that reflects Sapphire’s values

· Provide initial urgent care within level of competency and training

· To take a proactive approach to continuous training and development

· To be aware of legislation regarding Health and Safety and COSHH and to act accordingly

· To take a proactive approach to Infection Prevention

· Assist in maintaining and improving patient care by participating in quality initiatives e.g. Audit.

Administration

· To assist with the organisation of notes and hospital lists to ensure safe and smooth running of hospital schedules

· To complete all administration tasks and reports that are requested of you within your role to the highest standard

· To ensure that all clinical documentation is completed legibly and comprehensively to agreed organisational and NMC standards and guidelines

· To observe patient confidentiality at all times, in accordance with GDPR

Training and Development

· To undertake all mandatory training as required

· To undertake specific equipment training as required

· Actively participate in induction programmes for new Team Members and provide ongoing support

· Participate in clinical supervision, staff training and departmental meetings as required

Organisational

· To maintain a safe environment for our patients, relatives, carers and visitors

· To ensure the correct procedures for documenting and reporting any accident or incident is followed, this includes the completion of incident forms and cooperation with any investigation and subsequent action plans

· To be aware the requirements regarding the Duty of Candour

· To assist the Lead Nurse to ensure relevant levels of stock are available so that any treatment can be performed without undue delay

· To engage with the sharing of best practice with all Team Members

· Deliver service excellence through reflection on learning opportunities

· Actively participate in appraisals and objective setting
