Full job description

Veterinary Surgeon – Flexible hours and permanent or fixed term contract available

By joining us at Newport Vets for Pets you will be working with a great team of longstanding colleagues, enjoy real job satisfaction and a superb work environment! You’ll also benefit from our recent renovations that have enhanced our workspace and already spacious facilities.

The team
You’ll be joining an experienced and supportive team of 16 (6 receptionists, 5 vets, 3 RVN's and 2 VCA's) and on a given day you’ll usually be part of a team of 3 receptionists, 4 vets, 2 RVN's and 2 VCA's.

Cath, one of our practice owners is GDP certified and an excellent surgical trainer, and both practice owners (Cath and Paul) have trained all 4 assistant vets from graduating from vet school and now range from 1 year to 6 years qualified. This is testament to their commitment to their teams’ development and wellbeing.

The vet team are also supported by an experienced team of nurses, led by head nurse Michelle who is a certificate holder in anaesthesia and critical care and has prior experience working in several referral centres.

The role (s)
As one of our vets is sadly leaving and another is going on maternity leave, we’re now looking for a good-natured, good all-round GP veterinary surgeon to join us in looking after our valued patients and clients.

Due to the nature of the roles available, we can therefore consider full or part time hours and are happy to look at a permanent or fixed term contract. Part time hours will ideally cover 2 days a week Monday and Tuesday, 8:30am to 7pm, and full-time hours will be 40 hours a week and include a share of the weekend rota. There is not an out of hours requirement with either position.

The role is balanced with surgery and medicine and as a solid GP practice we work at a steady pace, with a well-managed rota and appointments given 15 minutes. However longer can be taken when required, as client satisfaction is key.

There’s lots of admin time factored into the diary too, again promoting a healthy pace of work and support to the team and our patients alike.

About us
Located in the vibrant city of Newport, our standalone practice thrives in the heart of the community. Our prime location within close proximity to great public transport links, major road networks and beautiful countryside and coast alike, also ensures a diverse caseload and a loyal client base, making every day rewarding.
