About virtual interviews

Virtual interviews make it easier to connect with candidates. They help you save time, reduce travel, and interview more people in less time. Virtual interviews also let candidates interview from a place where they feel comfortable.

Virtual interview lobby

In your virtual interview lobby, you'll find three tabs. Here's what you can do in each tab.

Waiting to interview

• Review the candidates who are waiting to enter the interview room.
• Click or tap the CV icon to access the candidate's CV, if they included it.

Interviewing

• Check all in-progress interviews.
• Join an in-progress interview.

Interviewed

• Review candidates who have finished their interview.
• Record interview notes and candidate fit.

Hiring Event rooms

There are three spaces for candidates in your virtual Hiring Event.

Lobby

Candidates join the lobby from their invitation. In the lobby, they can:

• Read the welcome message, if you set one
• Test their audio and video connection
• Add a back-up phone number
• Check in or get in the queue to join the waiting room

Waiting room

• The waiting room shows the candidate their place in the queue if there is one.
• The Join interview room button is inactive until the candidate gets to the front of the queue.

Interview room

• When the candidate enters the interview room, the Start interview button will appear next to their name.
• You can click or tap this button to start the interview.
• The number of candidates allowed in the interview room matches the number of active interviewers.

Panel interviews

• A panel of interviewers can join an in-progress interview.
• To join an in-progress interview, navigate to the Interviewing tab and select Join interview.

Technical support

• If a candidate has technical issues, you'll get a prompt through the platform.
• This lets you call them on the back-up phone number they provided when they joined the lobby.

Before you start

Give candidates time to prepare.

• Schedule interviews in advance.
• Let candidates get ready and feel confident.

Set up a rating system.

• Create a simple scoring system for candidates.
• Use the same rules for all candidates to guarantee fair comparison.

Choose a quiet space.

• Hold interviews in a quiet, distraction-free place.
• Use a neutral background.
• Tell others nearby that you are interviewing.

Prepare your questions.

• Review candidates’ CVs and applications.
• Prepare job-related questions in advance.
• Ask the same main questions to every candidate.
• Add extra questions for specific roles.

Test your technology.

• Check the internet connection, camera and microphone.
• Do a test call with a colleague.

Send a clear interview invitation.

• Email each candidate the date, time and log-in info.
• Include interview length and what to prepare.

During the interview

Dress and act professionally.

• Dress as you would for an in-person interview.
• Turn notifications off.
• Focus on the candidate.

Follow your interview plan.

• Ask prepared questions.
• Take notes.
• Give candidates time to answer, even with delays.

Share company culture.

• Explain the company values and work environment.
• Help candidates understand what to expect.

Explain the next steps.

• Tell candidates what happens after the interview.
• Let them know when they'll get updates.
