FAQs: Creating, uploading and managing a CV file

This article answers common questions about CV files. It covers writing, uploading, editing and printing a CV. It also explains file limits, privacy options and how CV replacements work.

Writing a CV

Question: Can I create my CV using a graphic design programme?

Answer: Maybe. We don't recommend complex designs. Some employers use applicant tracking systems (ATS). These systems work best with simple, text-based layouts. Graphics, images and text boxes may not work well.

Tip: Some employers let you add supporting documents to your application. This is where you can include a more personalised CV.

Uploading a CV

Question: Can I upload multiple CV files to my Indeed account?

Answer: No. You can only upload one CV file at a time. You can keep different versions saved on your device.

Question: I've deleted my CV file. Can you send me my old copy?

Answer: No. We don't store past CV files or profiles. You can download your current profile CV at any time.

Question: Can I upload a cover letter when I apply for a job?

Answer: Maybe. Some job applications allow you to upload a cover letter. This depends on the employer and the application type. Find out more about adding cover letters and other documents.

Question: Does uploading a CV make it public?

Answer: Maybe. You can choose whether your CV is public or private. Uploading a CV for a job application doesn't make it public.

Question: Can I replace my uploaded CV?

Answer: Yes. When you upload a new CV, it replaces the old file. The new file will be used for future applications.

Important: Uploading a new file will overwrite the previous CV. Save copies on your device.

Editing or updating a CV

Question: Can I update my application? I sent an employer the wrong CV.

Answer: No. You'll have to contact the company directly to edit your application.

Question: Can I replace my uploaded CV file?

Answer: No. To change an uploaded CV file, you must upload a new file. The new file replaces the old one.

Question: Can I change the format of my profile CV?

Answer: No. Your profile CV has one layout. You can edit the content in your profile. When you download it again, the layout stays the same.

Printing a CV

Question: Can I print my CV?

Answer: Yes. Click or tap the three dots next to your CV to download it as a PDF. Then, follow your device's printing steps.
