Weekend & BANK Holiday Caretaker/Cleaner

A vacancy has arisen to join Hedge End Town Council caretaking team. We are looking for either one person able to cover both days on the weekend or two friendly reliable and enthusiastic people to join us.

The post is for 7 hours per day Saturday & Sunday with potential for overtime at the weekend and when cover is required during the week. The hours are split shifts anywhere from 7.30am to midnight depending on the hires. The council has flexibility in the shifts available to suit the right person.

You will be required to carry out a range of caretaking and cleaning duties within HETC buildings, adhering to Health & Safety procedures and regulations. Duties will include opening halls to hirers, checking out hirers ensuring no damages. Cleaning of surfaces and sinks, brushing and wet mopping of floors and cleaning toilets.

1. Job Purpose:To be responsible for the maintenance of facilities, interior and exterior areas of The Buckland Centre and The Courtenay Centre

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Undertake maintenance, repair and installation works such as:

· Painting and general decoration

· Repair of doors, windows, and general building installations.

· General installation: e.g. Shelving, display boards.

· Basic plumbing and electrical: e.g. leaks, blockages, changing bulbs, minor installation and repair.

· Contacting and meeting relevant contractors where in-house repairs are not possible or for ongoing works.

· Undertake cleaning requirements as directed

· Maintenance and organisation of general furniture and equipment.

· Inspection and repair of furniture

· Furniture removals/ set up for bookings and activities.

· Maintain the appearance and condition of the Centres internally and externally; proactive raising areas needing attention to the Centre Manager and taking care of as part of role where feasible e.g: mowing, trimming, pressure washing external areas.

· Clearance of rubbish, debris and management of waste across the site

· Ensure that the Health and Safety regulations, policies and procedures relating to site and grounds are fully observed

· Monitoring and testing of property compliance requirements as part of a team monitoring schedule e.g. fire, emergency lighting and legionella

· Have out of hours duty phone on person to respond to any emergency calls or issues with access triaging as appropriate. Additional hours will be paid for time spent dealing with any call out or problem.

Related experience, including experience in building maintenance, gardening, electrics, cleaning or plumbing is also useful.

Caretaker education and training requirements

Caretakers don’t usually need any special education or training. Some employers may ask for candidates with GCSEs in mathematics and English. These qualifications can also help aspiring Caretakers gain relevant apprenticeships. Someone with property maintenance or facilities services operative intermediate apprenticeship would make an excellent candidate. Candidates holding relevant Level 2 certificates are favoured. Certificates in property, caretaking and facilities services, cleaning and support service skills and support work in schools are all useful for Caretakers.
