We are seeking an early-career researcher to work in the Materials Circularity (MC) Research Strand of the Textiles Circularity Centre (TCC). The Postdoctoral Researcher will work with academic partners in biotechnology, materials science, engineering, advanced manufacturing, and life cycle and material assessment in the MC Research Strand, as well as communicate the work and interact with partners in the Supply Chain (SC) and Consumer Experience (CX) Research Strands in the TCC. This role will focus on ‘design in materials circularity’ in the context of a circular bioeconomy, in the form of: (i) materials translation through digital and physical tools to communicate biotechnology and material transformation processes to all stakeholders in the textile value chain; (ii) circular design process integration for compatibility of fibres and materials for textiles, materials functionality and material recovery in novel textile fabrication methods; and (iii) practice-based tools and methods for material maintenance of circular materials within textiles and products in their use phase. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with an consortium on global grand challenges, with experience of collaboration and methods. They will have knowledge of textile techniques and design for biomaterials and textile fabrication, or experience in materials and textiles challenges for circularity. The work involves maximising the productivity of biotechnological systems for producing cellulose, trialling the production of viscose-like regenerated fibres from our cellulose, and producing and testing textiles and biomaterials made from these fibres and feedstocks. We are seeking an early-career researcher to work in the Materials Science Research Centre (MSRC) ‘Bio-manufacturing Textiles from Waste’ project. The PDRA will work with an research group including biotechnology, materials science, engineering, and lifecycle analysis, with academic partners at the University of York and the University of Leeds. This role will focus on assessing the sustainability, circularity, manufacturing opportunities and design potential of fibres, filaments, yarns, and biomaterials produced in the project, and to develop textiles, fabric design and prototypes to demonstrate these, as well as developing novel biomaterial routes for textile fabrication. Textile development and manufacturing trials (lab, workshop-based and in collaboration with industry partners) will explore knitting, weaving, non-woven textiles, functional and aesthetic finishes, and flexible textile composites. The work will establish the design potential and circularity of these materials that will involve establishing partnerships in the textiles and apparel sector, as well as a network of UK-based manufacturing capabilities, which informs the business development plan. What does a Doctor do?

A Doctor works to care for patients in many different ways, from advising patients about preventive healthcare to treating chronic illnesses. For specialist roles, experience with internal medicine,  anesthesiology, intensive care and pulmonology is necessary, depending on the speciality. The Doctor must also have experience reviewing and interpreting medical evidence and creating clinical reports.

 

Doctor education and training requirements

Doctors need to have a degree in clinical medicine from an accredited university and a residency or fellowship depending on the field of specialisation. Once they graduate, they need to obtain a medical licence before they start practising. Most referral and teaching hospitals do offer speciality training on the job. Upon completing speciality training in paediatrics, neurosurgery or emergency medicine, the Doctor has to sit an examination to receive board certification.
